LEGO Group joins forces with European Commission by signing up to the Green Consumption Pledge: a pilot initiative on climate action

The LEGO Group has joined the European Commission’s new Green Consumption Pledge pilot initiative – one of the first companies to sign up to this climate action initiative. By joining the pledge, the LEGO Group reinforces its commitment to lower its carbon footprint and help consumers make more sustainable choices.

A virtual event was hosted in Brussels, Belgium on January 25, 2021 to announce the Green Consumption Pledge and participation by L’Oréal, Colruyt Group, Decathlon and Renewd, as well as the LEGO Group. VP of Environmental Responsibility at the LEGO Group, Tim Brooks, announced our commitment in a video:

“Businesses need to play a core role in the transition to a low-carbon and circular economy. And we know we can’t do this alone. This is why we are committed to joining forces with legislators, consumers, experts and partners and work together to have a positive impact on the planet.”

The pilot programme is based on a set of five core climate action pledges. Participating companies are required to take concrete measures in at least three of the five pledge areas and progress will be measured and assessed on

LEGO Personalised Mosaic Portrait (40179) Available on LEGO Shop

A few years ago, LEGO introduced the Mosaic Maker at flagship LEGO stores in which you can take a picture and you can get to build a portrait of yourself. Since the COVID-19 pandemic is still not contained, LEGO is now offering the service, in a way, on the LEGO Shop. There is now a product listing for the Personalised Mosaic Portrait (40179) for $129.99 and you can upload an image to the tool to get the parts for the image shipped straight to your house. There are some limitations to what image you can use which is stated in the terms of service. The price is $129.99 and as of this post, it qualifies you for a LEGO City promo. Of course, this item may not be relevant to you but it does make a great gift item. Thanks to Akindu for the heads up.

LEGO Celebrates 63rd Brick Patent Day

Today, LEGO celebrates the day that the LEGO brick was born which was when the design of the LEGO brick was patented in Denmark back in 1958. It is pretty much one of the most important events in LEGO history since it eventually gave us the “building blocks” for the LEGO System. Without it, we wouldn’t have any builders or AFOLs in general.

On January 28, 1958 at precisely 1.58 pm the application for the very first LEGO® brick patent was filed at the Danish Directorate for Patents and Trademarks. Soon after, patent applications were filed in numerous countries around the world.

In the months after the application for the Danish patent, applications were filed in countries such as Norway (March 12, 1958), Sweden (March 22, 1958), Germany (April 10, 1958) and Holland (April 14, 1958). Also in 1958, applications were filed in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy.

The following year, in 1959, the LEGO reach was increased even further to include countries such as Israel, South Africa, England, Poland, Ireland, Turkey, Finland, Portugal and Spain.

And today, as we know, LEGO play is reaching millions of children all over the world.

LEGO Titanic Set Rumored for 2021 Release

Over the past week or so, there have been some new rumors of an upcoming LEGO set based on the Titanic. YouTube channel Brother From Another Brick has received information from Eurobricks user VanIslandLego about a LEGO Titanic set coming later on this year. There’s no other details mentioned but we can expect it during the second half of the year. Keep in mind that VanIslandLego is the same person who first reported on the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (10274) and the LEGO Colosseum (10276) before they were released.

The last large scale ship that LEGO has released was the LEGO Creator Maersk Line Triple-E (10241) way back in 2014 but if the Titanic is real, it is sort of macabre due to it having over 1,500 people dying when it sank in 1912.

LEGO has given an update on a couple of new VIP Rewards for February 2021 in the LEGO Rewards Center. We can now confirm that starting on February 1, LEGO will be offering the LEGO Pirates Collectible Coin, while supplies last. There will also be a sweepstakes which will run from January 31 – February 21. There was no mentioning on what the sweepstakes will be for.

We have already seen some of the promotions that will be happening next month on the Store Calendar but there is an additional in-store promotion at select stores from February 1-14. LEGO will be giving away Lunar New Year Red Envelopes with any gift card purchase over $20.

LEGO Seasonal Easter Bunny (40463) Review

LEGO Seasonal Easter Bunny (40463)

Releasing on February 1, the new LEGO Seasonal Easter Bunny (40463) is unlike some of the seasonal animal sets that have been released before it. Before we get to that, we’ll note that it has 293 pieces and will retail for $14.99.

The first part of the build is for the display stand, similar to the one found with the Valentine’s Brown Bear (40462). For the foundation, the designer has put in a carrot to also act as a support for the plates on top. There’s a spot on the corner for the bunny to sit and the other side has spots for two brick-built Easter eggs that come with the set.

The bunny itself is consists of several parts that connect to the body. There are a lot of curved plates and bricks that are used to give it a more natural look. The hind legs are on ball joints but they don’t actually give any advantage to being able to pose it. If you angle the legs just right, you can probably get some poseability out of it but is limited due to the tail and the weight of the head.

The head is also on a ball joint and this gives it a decent range of motion which allows it to have some emotion. It isn’t much but at least it doesn’t just spin around like with the heads of previous seasonal builds. Lastly, the ears are on ball joints as well.
