LEGO Shop@Home currently has an unannounced FREE LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes Jor-El Minifigure Polybag (5001623) with any LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes
purchase. It doesn’t matter what item it is as long at it’s DC. Even the keychains qualify for the promotion so if you missed out on the Jor-El polybag last year, you have another chance to get it.
There’s no word on when the promotion ends but get it while you can. The promotion ends on December 31, 2014.

Today, we have rather interesting review. It’s not an official LEGO product but it does contain LEGO MOCs. Andrew Payne, aka Clankwerks, is into LEGO products as well as the outdoors so why not combine the two. He has created a Brickrock Moab 2015 Wall Calendar that features some of his MOCs in the wild in Moab, Utah. This project was a year long one from designing and building the vehicles to taking them out to various locations such as the Slickrock Trail and the Delicate Arch. Some of the MOCs include Jeeps, UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles), Unimog campers, and Volkswagen Westfalia Campers.
The calendar itself is made from glossy paper and is filled with a number of holidays and events that you may or may not heard of like National Go Barefoot Day and National Tortilla Chip Day. It even has the founder of The LEGO Group Ole Kirk Christiansen’s birthday on there which makes a great trivia question for LEGO fans.
As a photography enthusiast, the details in the photos are very nice from the coloring to the depth of field of the MOCs to the background. If you’re interested in the 2015 Calendar, head over to Etsy to purchase your own. Also, if want to build your own versions of the MOCs, head over to Imgur and there are links to the LXF files on Eurobricks.
LEGO has released some short videos featuring the three new The LEGO Movie sets that will be available in January 2015. We first saw these videos on the official LEGO Facebook Page, but I just waited until the YouTube videos were available before writing about it. The first set is Batman & Super Angry Kitty Attack (70817) which includes Batman, Angry Kitty, and a Skeletron. It will retail for $9.99.
The second video features the Double-Decker Couch (70818) which is a combination of sets that have been released this year. It includes the Double-Decker Couch from MetalBeard’s Sea Cow (70810) and Emmet’s Car from a Toys R Us event back in February. The draw of the set are the five minifigures you can get which includes Emmet, Ghost Vitruvius, Benny, President Business, and the new Unikitty that was revealed during SDCC. Note that Ghost Vitruvius is also a new minifigure while Benny is from a more expensive set in his Spaceship (70816). This set will retail for only $14.99.
The final set for The LEGO Movie Winter 2015 wave is the Bad Cop Car Chase (70819). This set contains Bad Cop’s police car as well as small motorcycle. The minifigures include Bad Cop, Wyldstyle, and two Robo SWAT. Finally, you also get the chair that Bad Cop keeps kicking around. This set retails for $29.99.
A day after the LEGO Store Exclusive 2014 Holiday VIP Shopping Event, I have some information that may help you become one of the VIP members who may be chosen to attend the event next year. The following information was what LEGO Store employees were allowed to give:
They were selected on the basis they were in the top 35 VIP members for their local store based on engagement and purchases since joining LEGO VIP.
From the looks of it, the surveys VIP members fill out on their receipts do count towards your “engagement” level and LEGO takes that into consideration how many you complete in addition to the amount you spend at the store. I overheard people talking and and found out that it was a coincidence that they were frequent survey takers as well. I try to fill mine out usually the same day or within a couple of days. If you forget to do it, LEGO usually sends an email reminder to the registered email address. If you’ve ever filled out a survey, it pretty much asks about your recent experience at the store and would you recommend it to other people.
I hope this helps clear up a little bit on what the “requirements” were to attend the event and maybe next year, you could be one of the chosen few.
Earlier today, we revealed the official images for the LEGO Creator Detective’s Office (10246) and there was something interesting in the designer video. Last month, we exclusively reported that there could be a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes UCS Avengers Helicarrier coming in 2015. In the new video, inside the letter G, it looks like Marcos Bessa is doing a designer video for the set. In the image, you can kind of see the Avengers Helicarrier and a small Quinjet right above the landing platform. It looks like LEGO is giving out clues that the set will be coming next year.

Update: Rüsseltier over on Brickset gave some more details of the UCS Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. They note that the set will be available sooner than we first thought. Before, we first reported that it could be a Summer 2015 set but apparently it will be available on March 1st with set number 76042 and retail for $349.99. Great news for LEGO fans but sad news for our wallets.
I am happy to announce that Philly Brick Fest 2015 will be returning to the Philadelphia Expo Center April 23 – 26, 2015.
As many of you know may or may not know, Philly Brick Fest was the first LEGO convention I ever attended and it was worth the trip. I hope to attend again this year to cover the event, so stay tuned for updates on my travel plans.
LEGO conventions like Philly Brick Fest give FOLs – Fans of LEGO an opportunity to come together as a community under one roof. Convention activities include playing fun LEGO games, learning new building techniques from other builders, and of course seeing the amazing creations.
Some of my favorite games during the private days from last years event included the Minifigure Identification Game, and Bowling for Bricks which was a relay race where we built a LEGO set and played a game of bowling at the same time. There were also seminars from Alice Finch, Kevin Hinkle from the LEGO CEE Team, and Clutch (Chris Byrne) gave a talk about running one of the largest US-based Bricklink stores, Bricks On The Dollar.
Then came the MOCs and collaborative LUG layouts. PennLUG, SteelCityLUG, ColonialLUG, and DelVaLUG each had their own layouts. PennLUG touted the largest train layout in their club’s history and other layouts included a Moonbase, Explorian Fleet, and more. Late last night, we reported on a new rumored “spooky” retro theme that would be potentially coming out in 2015. One of the guesses that people thought of was Scooby-Doo. What we know so far is that Character Building had the license to produce figures based on the TV show but it may have expired or will be expiring and LEGO picked it up much like what happened with Doctor Who.
There has now been an update and it looks like there will indeed be a LEGO Scooby-Doo theme next year. According to the comments over on Hoth Bricks, a user by the name of Miniworld knows someone who has seen some of the Scooby-Doo sets at a showroom in France and was able to give some descriptions.
First, they are scheduled for release around May/June 2015. There will be four sets in total including the famous Mystery Van which has minifigures of Fred, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo. The next set is a Haunted House that includes Shaggy, Scooby, Daphne, and Velma. There were also two other sets but there aren’t any descriptions. However, they mention that there was a Swamp Monster in one of these sets.
This new report collaborates what Iso3200 said a few days ago over on the Brickset Forums. Also, note that Warner Bros. will be releasing a new TV show called Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! and will be shown on Cartoon Network, which both companies are also partners of The LEGO Group, so these sets could be based on that.
