LEGO Reveals 2013 San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Sets

LEGO has revealed the exclusive sets they will be selling at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con. They are the LEGO The Hobbit Micro Scale Bag End and the LEGO Star Wars JEK-14 Mini Stealth Starfighter. There is no word on how much they will be going for but we’re predicting around $40 like last year’s. There will also be a limited quantity being sold as well.

The Micro Scale Bag End consists of 130 pieces and includes a Bilbo Baggins minifigure. The JEK-14 Mini Stealth Starfighter has only 105 pieces and includes the JEK-14 minifigure. These sets are a smaller version of there regular counterparts. It looks like LEGO went with the box packaging, much like the Minecraft sets, this year instead of the tin packaging for the past couple of years.

Man Refused From LEGOLAND Discovery Center

A couple of days ago, I read an article on CTVNews.ca that a man from Windsor, Ontario was turned away from a LEGOLAND Discovery Center after driving 3 hours to Toronto because he didn’t have a child with him. John St-Onge is a 63 year old AFOL who was excited to that there was a location close to home since he has health problems and can’t travel that far. When he found out there was a Discover Center in Toronto, he planned the trip with his daughter only to be refused at the entrance to the park because he didn’t have a child accompanying them.

Apparently there’s a relatively obscure rule that was posted on the website but nobody thought to look at it since they were already paying for the admission tickets. Needless to say, John was devastated that his dream of visiting a LEGOLAND attraction would be crushed by what I think is a pretty stupid rule by LEGOLAND Discovery Centers ran by Merlin Entertainments. Although LEGOLAND does have an adults-only night once a month, it doesn’t take away from the fact that an ill man went out of his way to buy a ticket and drive 3 hours only to be refused at the entrance. They state that the rule was in place “to protect the families and children that visit.” I think it’s just a rule for Merlin to make more money since parents most likely won’t be leaving kids there by themselves and they are pretty much obligated to attend with … Continue

Red Clay Consolidated School District Attempting Guinness World Record

Our buddies over at YourCreativeFriends is reporting that The Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington, DE will be attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the tallest LEGO tower. The current record stands at 106 ft 7 in and was constructed in Prague, Czech Republic last year. All the schools in the district will be building a section of the tower and are currently 2/3 of the way there. The district is looking for donations of LEGO bricks to help with the construction. The assembly of the tower itself will be on August 19th at Dickinson High School and the people from Guinness will be onsite on August 20th to certify the world record. Cairns Central Vandalism Update

Last week, we reported that LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught’s $25,000, six-week project named “Elvis the Helicopter” was destroyed by some juveniles at Cairns Central. Today, there is an update to that story. Two 14 year old boys were part of a group of juveniles who destroyed the 100,000 piece display. They were caught and arrested with one count each of entering the premises and willful damage under the Australian Youth Justice Act. Police are continuing with the investigation and are expecting the other kids will be caught and charged as well.
