LEGO The Hobbit Barrel Escape (79004) Review

The LEGO The Hobbit Barrel Escape (79004) is the second Special The Hobbit Trilogy Preview Set with the other being the Escape From Mirkwood Spiders (79001) set. This means that this particular scene will take place in the second movie, The Desolation of Smaug. This set contains 334 pieces and retails for $39.99. That comes out to $0.14/piece. The box contains two numbered bags and one instruction booklet. This set is a LEGO store, Shop@Homeicon, and a Toys R Us exclusive.

LEGO The Hobbit Pricing

According to Brickset, there is now pricing for the LEGO The Hobbit sets and will be available on November 27. There are also reports that Smith’s and Fred Meyer stores in the US have already started selling the sets ahead of schedule. This is some great news as the holiday season rolls around.

LEGO The Hobbit Barrel Escape (79004) Designer Video

For this week, the designer video for the LEGO The Hobbit Barrel Escape (79004) has been released on their YouTube channel. Bjarke Lykke Madsen, senior designer for LEGO, describes the set and play features in more detail as well as the minifigures included in the set: Bilbo Baggins, Oin, Gloin, and two Mirkwood Elves (cellar chief and Elvan guard). All of the minifigures are exclusive to the set except for Bilbo. The Barrel Escape is one of the two Hobbit Trilogy Special Preview Sets with the other being Escape from Mirkwood Spiders (79001). More details of the set will be revealed on November 12 on The Hobbit minisite.

**Note** The minisite has been updated with the reveal of the Escape from Mirkwood Spiders set but the video of the Barrel Escape came out today, which is a little odd.
