LEGO Ideas First Review Stage Begins

LEGO Ideas

The first LEGO Review deadline for the new LEGO Ideas, formerly CUUSOO, has passed and the team has announced the qualifying projects for the Review Stage. The projects that qualify are: the LEGO Bird Project, the Modular Apple Store, the BTTF – Jules Verne Train, The Big Bang Theory, and Doctor Who and Companions. As you can see, we have a variety of projects that are worthy to become an official set so we have to wait and see which ones LEGO chooses to become one.

The LEGO Ideas team also announced that the results for the Winter 2014 Review Stage will be coming in the next few weeks which includes the Macross VF-1 Valkyrie, Sherlock, Legend of Zelda Iron Knuckle Encounter, Japanese Old Style Architecture, The Adventure Time Project, and the BTTF – UCS DeLorean Time Machine.

The second 2014 LEGO Review Deadline is September 1st and there are a number of projects that could potentally qualify for it. Check out those projects here.

LEGO Ideas Batman ’66 50th Anniversary Batmobile

This year marks the 75th Anniversary of DC Comics’ Batman to mark the event, AFOL conventions in 2014 will have the opportunity to have a contest to pick the best Batman-themed MOC at that show. At Philly Brick Fest, I saw Sam Gras’ 1966 Batmobile displayed at the show and it won the Rocky in the Best Celebration of Batman! Contest.

Philly Brick Fest 2014

The MOC has also been submitted to LEGO Ideas and has garnered over 1500 supporters already. It’s a very good representation of the Batmobile from the 1966 TV series starring Adam West & Burt Ward. Below are some facts of the project:

– The Batmobile measures over 4” (10cm) high, 11” (28cm) long and 5” (13cm) wide

– Screen accurate License plates

– Includes 3 mini-figures with assorted weapons: Batman, Robin, and The Joker

– Weapons include 2 Batarangs, flag gun, extra large hammer, Joker Fish, creme pie

– Reenact the famous “Batman Bomb Run”

– William Shakespeare bust with hidden bat-switch

– Shark Repellent Spray & Shark

With more and more iconic cars becoming official LEGO sets such as the BTTF DeLorean and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1, it would be cool to add another car to the list. Head over to LEGO Ideas and show your support.

LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) Box Art and Set Comparison

Brent Waller has recently received his copy of the official LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) set and he has uploaded images comparing his LEGO CUUSOO/Ideas project to the official set designed by Marcos Bessa. As we mentioned yesterday the Ecto-1 will be available on June 1st for $49.99. We can now see the official packaging of the set which looks freaking amazing and no longer has the LEGO CUUSOO branding. The back of the box shows the car as well as Ray, Peter, and Winston crossing the streams of their particle beams. The back of the box also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the movie. Check out the images of the original project submission (left) and official set (right) below.

LEGO Ideas Now Live

LEGO Ideas

Last week, we reported that LEGO CUUSOO would be replaced with LEGO Ideas. Starting today, LEGO CUUSOO is a thing of the past and LEGO Ideas is now live. You can easily import your CUUSOO account and it links to your LEGO ID. One new thing that I noticed is that you can earn points and badges which they call Clutch Power. The more things you do on LEGO Ideas, the more Clutch Power points you can earn and the more badges you can earn. Take a look around LEGO Ideas and let us know in the comments what you think of it.

LEGO CUUSOO to be Replaced with LEGO Ideas

LEGO CUUSOO has just posted a message stating that LEGO CUUSOO beta will be ending and will be replaced with a new site called LEGO Ideas. Effective April 30th, 2014, everything that was related to LEGO CUUSOO will be migrated to LEGO Ideas. With the launch of LEGO Ideas, there will be some updated terms and conditions.

1. All projects will have one (1) year to reach 10,000 supporters. Existing projects will have until May 1st, 2015 to get the required number of supporters and will keep their existing supporters. Any projects submitted after April 30th will have one year from the publish date to reach 10,000 supporters. Projects that don’t get 10k within the year will expire and will no longer accept supporters. You may be able to resubmit the project but you will start with zero supporters.

2. If you are between 13-18 years old, you may now create and submit projects but if you reach 10k, you will need a written permission from a parent or legal guardian before your project will be considered for the Review Stage.

The current LEGO CUUSOO site will be redirected to LEGO Ideas for 6 months so during that time, everything will be automatically redirected. After November 1, 2014, all links going to LEGO CUUSOO will stop redirecting so you have to update your links.

Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Project on LEGO CUUSOO

Brent Waller whose idea of the latest LEGO CUUSOO set to be released, the Ghostbusters Ecto-1, is back with another project on CUUSOO. He has listed another Ghostbusters themed project, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. As you may know, Mr. Stay Puft was chosen as the Gozer’s Destructor Form when Ray Stantz let an image of it “just pop in there.”

Brent’s version of Mr. Stay Puft stands over 34cm (13 inches) tall and has fully articulated head, arms, hands, legs, and feet. I am astonished beyond the capacity for rational thought of this project and if you have the same feeling, be sure to support the project as well. Stay tuned as Brent has given a teaser for some minifigures to be included in the future. Can you guess who they are?

LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters MOC by Sergio Herencias

With the news that a LEGO version of the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) becoming an official set, many people have took it upon themselves to build their own Firehouse Headquarters to have it ready for when the vehicle is available this summer. Sergio Herencias is one of these people. From inspiration from Dr. Dave Watford and Brent Waller, he has created his version the Firehouse which is a hybrid of both Ghostbusters movies. From the descriptions, the building is 38cm x 33.6cm x 17.5cm and consists of 3467 pieces. The total time it took for him to build was around 20 hours. The floors are removable and it also includes lights from LifeLites. Sergio also has plans to include lights in the Ecto-1 as well. Check out the timelapse video of him building his Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters MOC below.
