LEGO Minifigures Online Video Game Details Revealed

Earlier this month, we reported that there was a countdown to the unveiling of the details for the LEGO Minifigures Online game on Funcom’s site. Today, the wait is over. The countdown is finally over and Funcom has revealed the details of LEGO’s newest massively multiplayer online game called LEGO Minifigures Online. Executive Producer Lawrence Poe says “We could not be more excited to be working with LEGO on such a great franchise. I think you could even say the team has been training to make this game since we were little kids. That excitement carries over into everything we do, and we’re throwing every ounce of our passion and creativity into the game. We are one hundred percent focused on delivering the fun, safe, quality experience that people expect when they think of LEGO minifigures.”

The game is based on the adventures of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures line and will let players complete quests to enhance their character. The game will take place in many memorable locations including Pirate World, Space World and Medieval World. LEGO Minifigures Online will be free-to-play and will be available in the second half of 2014 for the PC, iOS, and Android platforms. In addition to being a DirectX 11 PC client, the game will also be playable through the browser with a new technology being developed by Funcom for its DreamWorld platform. LEGO Minifigures MMO Countdown

LEGO Minifigures MMO Countdown

Last year, we reported that LEGO has teamed up with Norwegian game developer, Funcom to create a new massive multiplayer online game that will be based on the LEGO Collectible Minifigures line. Funcom has a countdown going for the LEGO Minifigures on their page and in 12 days, they will be releasing more details of the game. You can subscribe to their email list and be notified when more information is available.

LEGO Minifigures will be the second MMO game that LEGO releases with the first being the popular but failed LEGO Universe MMO and will be available for PC and Mac sometime in 2014. Players will be able to use a wide range of minifigures from the Collectible Minifigures line and each character will have their own set of abilities. Players take part in quests and PvP battles to unlock power bricks to increase their minifigure’s abilities. Looking at some of the screenshots below, the game looks like it will bring back some of LEGO Universe. In addition to playing on PCs, the game will have the ability to tie-in with mobile devices including Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile. We’ll do another post when details emerge from Funcom in a few weeks.

Update: Details have been revealed.

LEGO Legends of Chima Online Open Beta

The LEGO Legends of Chima Online game has hit the beta stage and you can sign up to play today. It is free-to-play so you don’t have to worry about spending money to play it at this point. LEGO Legends of Chima Online starts off very similar to your standard online games where you create your character to your liking. After that you get a short tutorial of how to play the game. You’ll be encountering enemies that you fight to get better equipment to upgrade your character. You can either play alone or team up with other players to take down harder enemies. Like many other MMO games out there, you have the ability to add or remove people from your friends list. Another element to the game is that you collect LEGO bricks and studs to create different buildings. The reason for this is that certain buildings allow you to craft better weapons and armors while other buildings you use to boost your skills.

While the game is technically free-to-play, there are also membership plans you can purchase for better gameplay. Benefits of the memberships include: bigger inventory space, additional power slots, trading more items, extra outpost expansions, exclusive items, exclusive buildings, the ability to upgrade buildings to level 5, and Gold Bricks. Gold Bricks are an in-game currency that you can use to purchase a variety of premium in-game items.

LEGO Games Cancelled

If you’ve loved the various games that LEGO has released, we’re sad to report that we may have seen the last of them. All About Bricks is reporting that LEGO will be cancelling the Games theme by the end of the year because of poor sales. The theme did have great sales when it first launched back in 2009 but sales of the sets have dropped off since then. All About Bricks also states that the “current range will be available until all supplies are depleted” and that the Games that were supposed to be released later this year are also cancelled. Those sets are:

  • Batman (50003)
  • Story Mixer (50004)
  • Legends of Chima (50006)
  • The Battle of Helm’s Deep (50011)

LEGO has not confirmed that the Games theme will indeed be cancelled but the article states that last year’s Games will be the final sets to be released. You can still pick them up at many retail stores as well as on Shop@Homeicon. You can also purchase sets from Amazon cheaper than the retail price as well as FREE shipping with Amazon Prime.
