Disguise LEGO Ninjago Lloyd Prestige Costume Review

Halloween is coming up in a few weeks and it’s about that time to search for costumes for kids. Earlier this year at New York Toy Fair, Disguise showed off some new costumes for LEGO Nexo Knights and LEGO Ninjago. Fast forward to last month where Disguise announced a multi-year deal with LEGO to produce official costumes. The LEGO costumes are now available and Disguise has sent us a medium-sized LEGO Ninjago Lloyd Prestige Costume. The contents of the box include the tunic, pants, mask, and a pair of hands.

Help Beyond the Brick Get to BrickLive Birmingham

Our friends over at Beyond the Brick, who have just hit 100,000 subscribers, who are known for filming various LEGO conventions across the US and interviewing members of the LEGO community.

For one of their future projects, they’re looking to expand their coverage and attend BrickLive Birmingham in the UK at the end of October. They’re currently running a KickStarter to fund their trip overseas to film one of the largest LEGO conventions on the other side of the Atlantic.

For some of the KickStarter rewards, they’ve enlisted some builders in the community to create LEGO builds as part of the reward for certain pledge levels such as John Matz, Chris McVeigh, and Tyler Clites, just to name a few. This will be on top of the DVD you’ll be receiving of the show which won’t be posted to their YouTube channel.

They have about 24 left on the KickStarter as of this writing and they’ve already gathered a quarter of the goal so they’re off to a great start. Let’s keep it up and get Beyond the Brick to the UK.

Lepin Moves from LEGO Sets to LEGO Fan Designs

The past day or so, I’ve gotten a lot of emails regarding this piece of “news.” I saw some images on Facebook yesterday morning about it but brushed it off because I didn’t want to advertise it. A lot of people who saw the same images are outraged that this is going on and wanted me to write about it and maybe LEGO can see what’s happening.

If you didn’t read about it a few weeks ago, LEGO filed a civil action against LEGO bootleg company Lepin and the cases have been accepted in Chinese courts for further judgment. Well since Lepin is having some legal issues copying official LEGO sets, they’ve now turned to LEGO fans for inspiration for their next sets.

As you can see above, they’ve launched their Creators line and pretty much copied the Barnes & Noble and Starbucks Store project by wooootles on LEGO Ideas. Not only that, they have more sets copied shown on the back of the box such as the International Hotel by lgorlando and the Apple Square University by Pete Stege.

One thing to note is that when you submit your project to LEGO Ideas, you “give rise to any intellectual property right interest, hereunder copyright, patent rights, design rights etc., you hereby assign all rights worldwide to the content generated by you to LEGO” as stated in the Terms of Service so basically LEGO owns the designs of the projects for three years after it is no longer considered for production.

365 Things To Do With LEGO Bricks Book Review

DK’s newest book called 365 Things To Do With LEGO Bricks has just been released and I’ve received a copy a few weeks ago but now just have time to review it. Unlike other DK LEGO books where they focus on a particular theme, this book takes a look at different ways you can use LEGO bricks.

When you first pick up the book, you’ll notice the red activity selector and timer on the bottom right. When you press the question mark, you get a random number from 1 to 365 which represents the corresponding activity in the book. The yellow countdown button lets you set the time in 30 second intrements. The blue button is the stopwatch to time your activities. The green button is the start/stop button for the stopwatch. One thing to note is that the timer cannot be removed but it is inserted in a gatefold cover so you can have it available while reading through the book.

The first few pages gives you all the activities which are broken down into various categories. Futher along, there’s a spread asking what you feel like doing and it gives examples of some of the activities that are available in the book. If this is the very first time you’ve picked up a LEGO brick, there’s a couple of pages to give you some basic terminology of the bricks.

LEGO Ideas First 2016 Review Stage Winner Announced

The LEGO Ideas First 2016 Review Stage is now complete and the project that will become an official LEGO Ideas set has been announced. There were nine projects that qualified for the review stage including Fossil Museum, Gingerbread House, Modular Train Station, Old Fishing Store, Jedi High Council, Particle Accelerator, Jurassic Park Visitor Center, Rolling BB-8, and Johnny Five.

It was been revealed that we will be getting the Old Fishing Store as a LEGO set next year! There’s no details of piece count or pricing but we do know that the Old Fishing Store will be released in the fall of next year. Congratulations to Robert Bontenbal for achieving this goal and we look forward to seeing the final product soon.

The Second 2016 Review Stage is underway and those results will be announced in early 2017.

LEGO DC Super Hero Girls NYCC 2016 Exclusive Batgirl Revealed

During LEGO’s tour of the New York Comic Con 2016 booth, the host showed off the exclusive that will be given away at the convention this week which will be the Batgirl minidoll. If you didn’t see the press release from this morning, LEGO will be doing daily drawings to give away Batgirl. There’s no word on how the drawing will work but I have a feeling that it’ll be similar to SDCC where you tap the iPad to see if you’re a winner or not. If you can’t make it to NYCC, LEGO is also doing a giveaway on Twitter where you just retweet their giveaway tweet and they’ll randomly choose a winner.

As for the exclusive Batgirl minidoll itself, it looks to be similar to the one in the Batgirl Batjet (41230) but you also get the clamshell with the New York Comic Con cardboard. The images I used are clipped from the video so the resolution isn’t that good but check out the tour of the LEGO NYCC 2016 booth below to see a clearer image of it.

Last Three LEGO DC Super Hero Girls Sets Revealed Plus NYCC Press Release

LEGO has just revealed the last three sets for the LEGO DC Super Hero Girls on their social media pages. They’ve also released the New York Comic Con press release which gives details for the price points of the sets as well as stuff going on at the convention.

If you’re heading to NYCC this week, LEGO will also be doing giveaways for a Batgirl minidoll. It sounds like they’re doing the same thing as they did at San Diego Comic Con where you tap the iPad and it tells you if you win or not. If you’re not attending, you can follow their Twitter and retweet to try to win.
