Marvel Announces Licensing Partners for Avengers: Age of Ultron

Licensing.biz is reporting that Marvel Entertainment has revealed their licensing partners for product lines based on the Avengers: Age of Ultron. The campaign will be one of the largest for the Marvel movies and will include companies such as Hasbro, Hot Wheels, and LEGO.

We’ve already seen many sets based on the Marvel movie franchises such as the first Avengers movie and Iron Man 3 so it’s not a secret that LEGO will be producing sets for the Avengers sequel.

Let the speculations begin on which characters will be made into LEGO minifigures. We’ll no doubt see Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow make their return again in this wave of sets. We’ll most likely see some new minfigs such as Ultron, Vision, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch make their debut as well. Can we also hope for maybe a Thanos minifigure too?

LEGO Minifigures Online First Impressions

LEGO Minifigures Online

Now that LEGO Minifigures Online is in open beta, I can finally talk about my experience so far about the game while I was testing it in the closed beta. When you first start, you choose between three teams of three minifigures. After that, you go through a short tutorial of how to play the character and the game features. If you’ve played any sort of RPGs before, you’re probably already familiar with how the game will play.

Within the options menu, you find a tab that is for “Shop” which is essentially the game’s main cash grab. There are a variety to purchase a number of things such as more minifigures to use in-game, potions, diamonds, as well as the membership. Although technically you don’t have to spend real money to play the game because you can spend the diamond currency that you can pick up in-game, it will be somewhat faster and more “fun” because you’ll be unlocking a number of features that the free version doesn’t have. One of these features is the Pocket Adventures which are essentially dungeons that give more loot. One other feature that I felt shouldn’t be subscription-only is the chat function. Currently there is no way to communicate with other players unless you are a member which is, how can I put it lightly, stupid. The purpose of MMOs is to play with other people and communicating with them is essential to plan out strategies and whatnot. But if everyone is playing for free and there’s no … Continue

The LEGO Movie Vitruvius Minifigure Comparison

The LEGO Movie Young Vitruvius

The LEGO Movie is out in stores today if you purchase the Everything is Awesome Edition, you will be getting the exclusive young Vitruvius minifigure as well. So far, this is the only way to get the minifigure and there are some subtle differences between it and the one you get in the regular sets including Lord Business Evil Lair (70809) and MetalBeard’s Sea Cow (70810).

In the younger Vitruvius, he wears a different white robe that has a medallion printing and tassels on the front. Like his older version, there is no back printing but he also wears the shiny blue cape. In addition, Vitruvius only has a single-sided head and with a fairly happy expression and he’s not blind! The other differences is the younger version has a grey/silver headband instead of the orange one and he doesn’t have a staff.

Overall, the young Vitruvius is a decent addition to the Everything is Awesome Edition of the Blu-Ray but I would’ve thought that another character would’ve made it a better exclusive such as I don’t know *ahem* Green Lantern. Even the original minifigure of MetalBeard, real name Craggy, before he became what he is now would also have been a nice addition since we never had that version of him yet. The little differences between the Vitruviuses wasn’t the reason why I picked up this version of the Blu-Ray but it is still nice to add his younger self to my collection.

LEGO Minifigures Online Now in Open Beta

Many people have been waiting for this piece of news for a long time now. The Closed Beta for LEGO Minifigures Online ended a few days ago which meant that Funcom was ready to roll out the Open Beta very soon and that day is today. You can now go in and try out LEGO Minifigures Online by clicking “Play Now!” All you have to have is your LEGOID to start playing.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to take part of the Closed Beta and my first impressions were, “This may work.” It’s basically your standard MMO where you level up your character and upgrade your skills as you progress in the game. Throughout the beta, you will be able to test out various charcters in a couple of worlds and provide feedback to the developers.

The game is based on the popular LEGO Collectible Minifigures theme and Funcom is hoping that they will translate into a great gaming experience as well. Check out the official Funcom press release below.
