Today is International Women’s Day and you can celebrate with LEGO with the new Jane Goodall Tribute (40530). The promotion is still running and will go until March 15 with purchases of $120. Dr. Jane Goodall is the foremost expert on the study of chimpanzees which has spanned over 60 years and the set is the second tribute set that LEGO has released to celebrate women.
Earlier today, LEGO has published the 2021 annual results and they have reported very strong growth last year. Consumer sales went up 22% compared to 2020 and revenue grew 27% to DKK 55.3 million which is equivalent to about $8 billion. Operating profit grew 32% and net profit was DKK 13.3 million.

In the past few years, there have been a ton of projects that have hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas with only a select few actually becoming official LEGO sets. This begs the question, should there be changes made to the platform sooner than later? I’ve done a piece like this a while back and I would like to revisit the topic.
LEGO Ideas began in 2014 after it changed from LEGO CUUSOO and the requirement for review ever since the beginning was that a project had to hit 10,000 supporters in a certain amount of time. Before they had two years to do so but Ideas changed to give tie extensions. Back then it seemed a lot harder to reach the goal but in recent years, 10,000 seems to be trivial now.
Since the First 2020 Review Stage, there have been 213 projects that reached 10,000 supporters with only 8 sets actually being realized. The most recent ones are the A-Frame Cabin and BTS’s Dynamite which were announced last week. Also out of the 213 projects, 31 of them went on to the BrickLink Designer Program where only 15 of those will be made.
LEGO already knows that there are a lot of projects hitting the goal and they’ve already stated that we shouldn’t be expecting any changes to LEGO Ideas anytime soon. Today is the start of the LEGO Jane Goodall Tribute (40530) promotion on the LEGO Shop and here’s our quick review of the set. It has 276 pieces and you can get it for free with purchases of $120 or more until March 15, while supplies last. The set comes in five unnumbered bags and it contains a small sticker for the plaque.
The Jane Goodall minifigure features her in a sand-green shirt with tan pants. Her wrinkled facial expression shows her with a smile. A white ponytail completes her look. She comes with a pair of binoculars as an accessory.
The build features a small jungle habitat that consists of three trees. The right side of the habitat has a small stream of water that uses trans-blue tiles. The larger tree on the left uses a combination of slopes and bricks to achieve the look. There are some hanging vines on the different sized leaves which looks pretty good. There are also some different colored flowers that are spread out on the habitat. Three chimpanzees that are situated on the jumper tiles but you pretty much put them anywhere. Lastly, there is a stickered plaque for Ethologist Dr. Jane Goodall.
Overall, this is a pretty nice set that LEGO has released to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022. The price point to get it did go up $20 from last year when the Amelia Earhart Tribute (40450) was released but it also does have 76 more pieces which includes the three chimps.

The Air Jordan 1 by legotruman is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The 286 piece build features the iconic Nike Air Jordan 1 that Michael Jordan used during his rookie year. Also proposed are other colorways for the shoes.
