LEGO Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420) Review

LEGO Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420)

The past few years, LEGO has released exclusive ornaments as part of promotions and for 2016, they’ve continued to do so with the LEGO Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420). It is currently available for free with purchases of $50 or more at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home, while supplies last. The Toy Soldier is the largest of these types of ornaments to be released coming in at 34 pieces.

Like with the previous ornaments, the Toy Soldier comes in a resealable package which holds the blue fabric bag the parts are in. The contents include two small bags this time, the instructions, and the string.

The build is pretty straightforward as you build from the bottom up. I do like the use of the 1×2 plate with the handles on the sides for his moustache. When we first saw an image of the set, we couldn’t see if it included the printed tile for the year but sure enough we do get a printed 2×2 tile with 2016 on it.

LEGO Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420)

Overall, I do like the new LEGO Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420) as it’s another addition to the growing collection of promtional Christmas tree ornaments with the Train (5002813) in 2014 and the Christmas Tree (5003083) in 2015. If you can’t get the Toy Soldier Ornament for whatever reason, you can build your own with the instructions below, minus the exclusive 2016 2×2 tile.

LEGO Ideas The Beatles Yellow Submarine (21306) Review

LEGO Ideas The Beatles Yellow Submarine (21306)

One of the more popular LEGO reveals this year was for the announcement of the LEGO Ideas The Beatles Yellow Submarine (21306). The set is by Kevin Szeto’s project that hit 10,000 supporters almost one year to the day. The set is based on the 1968 musical animated film that featured a number of the songs from the Beatles. As we know by now, the Beatles were one of the most influential bands in music history.

The Yellow Submarine (21306) consists of 550 pieces and retails for $59.99/£49.99/€59.99 which is somewhat of a decent price point for a licensed set.

LEGO Seasonal Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420) Official Images

LEGO Seasonal Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420)

There are now official images of the LEGO Seasonal Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420) that have been uploaded to LEGO’s servers. We first saw an image of it a few months ago but didn’t know how to acquire it until the November 2016 LEGO Store Calendar was revealed. You can get it next starting November 1 at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home with purchases of $50 or more, while supplies last.

LEGO continues the tradition of releasing these ornaments as a promotional gift for 2016. In 2014, they released the Train (5002813) while 2015 had the Christmas Tree (5003083). Both of the previous sets had exclusive printed tiles of the years. The official images for the Toy Soldier doesn’t show a tile for 2016 but hopefully, it’ll be on the back of the build which we can’t see at the moment.

LEGO Ninjago Stone Armor Cole (5004393) Reportedly Available at Toys R Us

A reader has sent in some information about the LEGO Ninjago Cole (5004393) minifigure box which was revealed back in June. They have stated that they found them in stock at Toys R Us and are available for purchase for $7.99 each. I believe Toys R Us Canada has it available for free with qualifying LEGO purchases of $25 or more this week.

If you’re not familiar with this version of Cole, it is the Stone armor version of the character in the Rebooted storyline from a few years ago and hasn’t been released before. The box itself is similar to the LEGO Nexo Knights King’s Guard (5004390) which opens up in the middle to reveal the minifigure along with a background of the theme. It was given away as part of a voucher promotion from the 2016 LEGO Calendar. The December 2016 LEGO Calendar does show that will be getting a 2017 Wall Calendar but there’s no word on whether there will be any redeemable vouchers like they did in recent years.

As mentioned before, the LEGO Ninjago Stone Armor Cole (5004393) minifigure box was found at a Toys R Us store but your mileage may vary at this time. I’ll try to check the system at work tomorrow to see if I can find out the item number for it or if someone knows the number, please let us know in the comments. I’ll also try to see if there are any upcoming promos here for it as well.
