LEGO Top Gear Sets Coming in 2015?

Remember last year when we reported that Top Gear asked random people to take a survey on possibly bringing vehicles from the show into LEGO form? We doubted it but a new report from CM4Sci over on Eurobricks may ease my doubts just a little.

He has posted a list of “Super Car” sets, again from David Thomsen, which makes it seem that a LEGO Top Gear theme could be happening in 2015. If not, they may just be more Creator sets or maybe TECHNIC sets based on those supercars. The pricing is in New Zealand Dollars so USD will be a little lower than what is shown below. Again, take this information as rumors but it may seem that these are legit. Another question is “Who is David Thomsen?”

La Ferrari (75899) – 24.99/$20
458 Italia GT2 (75908) – 24.99/$20
McLaren P1 (75909) – 24.99/$20
Porsche 918 Spyder (75910) – 24.99/$20
McLaren Mercedes Pit Stop (75911) – 69.99/$60
Porsche 911 GT Finish Line (75912) – 99.99/$80
T & F14 Ferrari Truck (75913) – 179.99/$150

Another Wave of LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures Coming in 2015?

LEGO The Simpsons Series Collectible Minifigures (71005)

Okay this is some very unexpected news but CM4Sci over at Eurobricks has reported there will be another wave of LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures (71009) coming out in 2015! This piece of news comes from someone named David Thomsen who was the same person that revealed the list of the 2015 LEGO Pirates sets. The price given is 4.99 NZD but will probably stay at $3.99 for us here in the States. So who is excited for another wave of Simpsons minifigures and which characters would you like to see in this wave?

**Note: The above image is NOT the new one that are coming out next year. Those are the ones that are still currently in stores.**

LEGO Seasonal Halloween Bat (40090) Revealed

LEGO Seasonal Halloween Bat (40090)

The holiday season is just around the corner and images of the new LEGO Seasonal sets have started to surface. Brickset has revealed the Halloween Bat (40090) which have been reported to be showing up at various LEGO Brand Stores. It contains 156 pieces and most likely will probably retail for $9.99. In the instructions booklet for the Halloween Bat shows another Seasonal set which is the Thanksgiving Turkey (40091). Both sets are similiar to the Seasonal sets that we’ve gotten earlier this year including the Valentine’s Day Teddy Bear (40085) and the Easter Bunny (40086).

The Art of LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Programming Press Release

Earlier today, No Starch Press sent us a press release for The Art of LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Programming. You can also pre-order the book on Amazon. Check out the press release below:

The Art of LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Programming—New from No Starch Press

New book unlocks the power of the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 programming language

San Francisco, CA, August 26, 2014—The LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 system makes it easy for anyone to build and control robots. LEGO’s block-based and colorful EV3 programming language is great for first-timers, but it has more powerful features than its user-friendly interface might suggest.

In the upcoming book The Art of LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Programming (No Starch Press, $34.95, 276 pp., Sept 2014, ISBN 9781593275686), software engineer Terry Griffin offers a beginner-friendly, in-depth guide to the EV3 language. An update to Griffin’s highly regarded Art of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT-G Programming, this new book teaches readers the basic building blocks and then launches into more sophisticated programs. Readers begin by writing functions that control their robots’ movement, sensors, and sounds and then move on to programming more complex behaviors that allow their robots to follow lines, detect objects, and navigate mazes.
According to No Starch Press founder Bill Pollock, “The EV3 programming language is remarkably approachable but also surprisingly deep. Griffin’s new book will show any serious EV3 programmer how to unlock the real power of EV3. Competitive MINDSTORMERs will love this book.”

In The Art of LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Programming, readers learn how to:

  • Make robots react to different environments

LEGO Activities at FAN EXPO Canada 2014

LEGO has a press release detailing all the activities that will be happening at FAN EXPO Canada 2014 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from August 28-31.

The first public screening for Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 5pm in Room 701A. Attendees can pretty much watch the movie for free at the event. It will be showing in theaters early next year as mentioned at the SDCC panel.

Attendees can also see life-size LEGO models which probably will be the same ones we saw at SDCC.

There will also be themed LEGO giveaways each day of the convention starting Friday. These aren’t the same ones that were given out at SDCC but some other promo items for the themes. No word on what these items are at this time.

Finally, the LEGO booth will be selling The Ghost exclusive set. It is the same set from SDCC except that you get a Kanan Jarrus minifigure instead of Chopper.

Rest of LEGO 2014 Promotions Including Double VIP Points

There is a postcard that is currently being sent out to LEGO VIP members which details some of the upcoming promotions that LEGO will be having the rest of the year. I haven’t received one yet but DadsAFOL on the Brickset Forums has posted an image of it a few days ago.

First up is something we’ve touched on a few times already. You can get the free exclusive Classic Spaceman Minifigure with purchases of $99 or more in September.

October is a month that many people have been waiting for. October marks the return of Double VIP Points! During the whole month at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home, you can get $5 for every $50 you spend. If you’ve been holding off on your larger purchases, October may be the month that you can get the most value from.

For November, LEGO again will have their version of Black Friday with their “Brick” Friday event. VIPs will be able to get a number of sets at discounted prices as well as a free holiday Winter Skating Scene set with purchases of $99 or more. There are no images of the set yet but we’ll report it once they become available.

The rest of 2014 looks to be a very exciting time for LEGO fans as we have lots of cool stuff to look forward to. What month/promotions are you looking forward to the most?

Upcoming LEGO CLUB Magazine Subscribers Changes

Keith Severson of the LEGO CEE Team recently shared the following information to LEGO Ambassadors regarding the free LEGO CLUB Magazine. Starting in September in parts of Europe, CLUB members who are older than 13 years old will no longer be enrolled in the subscription. In November, all of Europe will be subjected to the same regulation and in 2015, the rest of the world will be following the same rules.

The magazine will now focus its distribution to children 12 years old and younger. AFOLs who still want the magazine can get it at LEGO Stores although it’s a slight inconvenience. For me, I mostly enjoy the different comic that are included in the magazines.

Check out the email that was sent out below and leave a comment to share your thoughts on this change. Although I’m not a LEGO Ambassador, maybe LEGO can see some of the readers’ comments and pass them along.

I have recently have had a dialog with the LEGO CLUB team. They are taking a new step in the CLUB Magazine which is resulting in some changes, specifically affecting adult subscribers.

Coming in the September release in EUC (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) all CLUB members who are older than 13 years old will receive a notice that it is their last subscription. Then in November it will be all of Europe (November will be the 2nd launch in EUC, so DE, AT and CH only) and then starting in 2015 it will be global. The CLUB magazine will focus its
