LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307) Review

LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307)

It was December 4, 2014 when Carl Greatrix submitted his Caterham Super Seven project on LEGO Ideas. Fast forward to May 2015 when the project hit 10,000 supporters and was approved to become an official LEGO Ideas set a year later. The Caterham Seven 620R (21307) was announced last week and the folks over at LEGO has sent us a review copy of the set. Coming at 771 pieces and retailing for $79.99, it is the largest Ideas set in terms of piece count as well as being the most expensive one to be released so far. The contents of the box include six numbered bags and the instruction booklet.

The LEGO Group Files Civil Action Against Lepin

You may heard or seen pictures of a Chinese company called Lepin reproducing bootleg copies of various LEGO sets and selling them on the market for a fraction of the normal retail price. People who aren’t LEGO enthusiasts may not immediate know the difference between the Lepin clones and LEGO as they have similar logo fonts and packaging but us fans know it very well.

There’s news coming out of the LEGO Ambassador Network earlier this morning that The LEGO Group has filed civil actions in China against Lepin and the cases have been accepted in Chinese courts. Whether or not TLG will win these cases remain to be seen. You can check out the whole post below.

Dear RLUG Ambassadors,

We would like to confirm that the LEGO Group have recently filed civil actions in China against the manufacturer and distributor of LEPIN/乐拼 branded construction toys. Our cases have been accepted by Chinese courts and are now pending for trials. We expect the 1st instance decision to be handed down in approximately one years’ time. Please note that LEPIN will not be legally barred from marketing and selling its products while the case is being heard by the courts.

We deeply appreciate and share the LEGO community’s concern and frustration about passing-off or imitation of LEGO® products. We are committed to do whatever necessary to protect the LEGO brand and products against undue exploitation, and to minimize the risk of consumers being misled via improper use of LEGO Group intellectual property assets.

LEGO Creator Winter Holiday Train (10254) Review

LEGO Creator Winter Holiday Train (10254)

Last month, LEGO officially announced the next set in the Winter Village theme with the LEGO Creator Winter Holiday Train (10254)icon. LEGO released another Holiday Train (10173) back in 2006 but this is a completely new train unlike what happened last year with the winter set. If you remember, LEGO released the Winter Toy Shop (10249)icon and a lot of people weren’t happy with that since it was just a rehash of the previous toy shop with slight updates. For the Winter Holiday Train, it is slightly different than the previous one and not a total copy. It comes in at 734 pieces and retails for $99.99. The contents of the box include one un-numbered bag, six numbered bags, 16 loose track pieces, and the two instruction booklets that are neatly sealed.

One thing to note is that I do not own 10173 so I have no basis for comparison and will just be reviewing this new set.

Rumored LEGO DC Super Hero Girls Set Info

Remember last year when Warner Bros. announced the new DC Super Hero Girls and LEGO would be producing some sets in conjunction with it? Well there looks to be some concrete information about the LEGO DC Super Hero Girls sets with some set numbers and possible set names courtesy of CM4sci on Eurobricks.

He mentions that each set would come with a small crystal-like villain build. The box packaging is “blue and sparkly” and is better that expected. There are six sets that will be available in February. Without me seeing what the sets are like, I’ll just quote what was mentioned in CM4Sci’s post from what he’s seen.

Batgirl’s Batjet (41230) – A small and round Batwing, it actually looks really neat. It uses the round UFO corners as the wings in a dark blue. In front is a pretty well hidden net launcher. Batgirl is in no way final but she’s sitting in the jet. There’s a small buggy for the yellow bad guy, who seems to be holding a phone?

Harley Quinn’s Cafe Rescue (41231) – Small, two floor cafe build labled ‘Capes & Cowls’ Harley Quinn is on a flying net shooter with wings? The piece usually used for net launchers is the middle. Steve (is that his name?) Is captured in a vine on the top floor. There’s a green crystal baddie included.

The High School (41232) – It looks so cool – Giant central tower that with stickers gives off the perspective that it’s growing to a sharp point.

Upcoming September 2016 LEGO Star Wars Promotions

If you missed out on the LEGO Star Wars Darth Revan (5002123) minifigure back in 2014 or the then LUG member only Escape the Space Slug set earlier this year, there are some promotions that LEGO will be running for you to be able to get them, at least for guaranteed one of them.

First is the Darth Revan minifigure that will be given away with any LEGO Star Wars purchase at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home on September 30, 2016, while supplies last. Doesn’t look like there’s any other stipulations on it so that’s good. Plus, Force Friday 2016 for the Star Wars: Rogue One sets will be available so it’s pretty easy to get Darth Revan if you plan on purchasing something. Be sure you make your purchases then since this promo is only valid for that day.

For the Escape the Space Slug set, you have to be a LEGO VIP member and purchase the UCS Death Star (75159)icon during the VIP early access timeframe which is September 15-30, 2016. After you do that, you’ll be automatically be entered to win one of the limited edition sets. There’s a limit of one Death Star purchase with a particular VIP number so you can’t have multiple entries.

Update: I’ve been notified that over on the sweepstakes page, you can also enter without making a purchase.

1) Send us an email at the address below, with the following information:

• Write “LEGO Star Wars™ Escape the Space Slug™ Sweepstakes” in the subject line
