San Diego Comic Con 2014 Exclusive Minifigure Revealed

LEGO Guardians of the Galazy - The Collector SDCC 2014 Exclusive Minifigure

The Wall Street Journal has revealed that LEGO will again be giving out four minifigures this year at San Diego Comic Con 2014. They have revealed that The Collector from LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy will be one of these minifigures.

Now that we know that LEGO will again be giving away these minifigures, many people, including scalpers, will be trying to get their hands on one of these minifigures. There’s no word yet on how the giveaways will be handled given last year’s debacle.

LEGO Marvel GOTG Rocket’s Warbird SDCC 2014 Exclusive

LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy - SDCC 2014 Exclusive - Rocket's Warbird

The Wall Street Journal has revealed one of this year’s San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive sets, the LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket’s Warbird. The set will include 145 pieces and will retail for $39.99. Rocket Raccoon will have a different outfit than what he has with the Knowhere Escape Mission (76020), sporting the Guardians of the Galaxy outfit in this exclusive.

If you are going to be at SDCC 2014, be prepared to wait a long time in line to pick one of these bad boys up as these exclusives will be in limited quantities sold per day. There will also probably be a limit to how many that you can get. One of the bad things is the SDCC scalpers will be in full force hoping to make a profit on the sets and taking it away from real LEGO fans. I’m hoping to be able to pick up one of Rocket’s Warbird to do a review on after the convention. Thanks to Jim for emailing the report in.

LEGO Ideas UCS All Terrain Armoured Transport Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The UCS All Terrain Armoured Transport (AT-AT) by Cavegod is the latest project to get 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. It is a massive buidl and uses around 6,000 LEGO elements with a total weight of around 17 pounds.

Since the project did hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas, it will probably not be approved by the LEGO Jury due to The LEGO Group’s ongoing relationship with Lucasfilm for official LEGO Star Wars sets. This has happened before with Mb_brick’s UCS Sandcrawler from last year. Even on the official comments for 5,000 supporters, LEGO said:

While we welcome projects based on current licenses like Star Wars in the LEGO Review, please keep in mind that a project based on an existing LEGO license has a smaller chance of passing the LEGO Review than other projects.

If you’ve been wanting an AT-AT, don’t fret. The summer 2014 wave of LEGO Star Wars sets are already showing up in stores and there will be one, albeit a lot smaller, in this wave (75054). Although Cavegod’s project will probably not pass the review stage, it is still an amazing achievement just to get 10,000 supporters.

The Labyrinth Marble Maze by JKBrickworks now becomes the highest supported project on LEGO Ideas.

Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary Panel at San Diego Comic Con 2014

TwoMorrows Publishing and BrickJournal will be back again this year for San Diego Comic Con 2014 with a panel taking a look behind the scenes of Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary. The panel will include Joe Meno (BrickJournal) as the moderator along with Oscar-nominated director Kief Davidson, producer Brendan Kiernan, as well as our good friend Tommy Williamson (BrickNerd). The panel will be held on Saturday, July 26th from 5-6pm in Room 23ABC. I’ll be there to take pictures and notes so for those who aren’t able to attend, you’ll at least be able to see what went on at the panel.

TwoMorrows Publishing and BrickJournal magazine present a behind the scenes look at a new LEGO documentary released at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Moderated by Joe Meno (editor of LEGO fan magazine BrickJournal), this panel will include one of the film’s directors, Oscar-nominated Kief Davidson, producer Brendan Kiernan, and stop-motion filmmaker Tommy Williamson (www.Bricknerd.com).

LEGO Mobile Suit Gundam by Orion Pax

As a fan of LEGO and Mobile Suit Gundam, Alex Jones, aka Orion Pax, has hit the spot with his creation of of the Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78-2. During Alex’s trip to Taipei this year, he caught Gundam fever along with millions of us. The RX-78-2 is one of the most recognizable mobile suits in the series and this LEGO version of it is absolutely remarkable.

Alex has also created a number of accessories to go along with with the suit including a “beam” saber, the RX*M-Sh-008/S-01025 shield, and even a hanger bay for it. All the details are so realistic that you wouldn’t think that they’re made out of LEGO. Head over to Alex’s website to see more images of his creation.

LEGO The Hobbit Smaug Teaser

LEGO earlier on their Facebook Page posted an image of a code 4FYKKB for the LEGO The Hobbit video game to unlock Narzug. This code has been out for a while now but the interesting thing is there is also a glimpse of a physical version of LEGO Smaug’s wing, tail, and feet. According to some reports, Smaug would be in set 79018 where it depicts the final scenes from the Desolation of Smaug and Brickipedia has him in a set called “King Under the Mountain.”

There’s still no definite news at this time of this wave of The Hobbit sets outside of online retailers having placeholders. This is just early speculation but I can venture a guess that Smaug will look somewhat similar to the dragon from the LEGO Castle Dragon Mountain (70403) but with a repaint. Hopefully we get some news on these new Hobbit sets soon and if so, they’ll probably be released later this year/early next year.
