LEGO Becomes World’s #2 Toymaker

Despise a slow start in 2013 in the North America and European markets, The LEGO Group has still managed to become the world’s #2 toymaker beating out Hasbro. The Danish toy company had sales jump 13 percent in the first-half of 2013 with the strongest growth in the Asian markets. Their revenue rose to 10.4 billion kroner in the first six months of 2013 from 9.13 billion kroner in the same time period as last year. The revenue which is equivalent to $1.84 billion beat out Hasbro Inc. which had reported sales of $1.43 billion.

The increase in revenue was due to increased sales in the LEGO Legends of Chima line as well as the LEGO Friends line and Chief Executive Officer Joergen Vig Knudstorp says the Friends sets were the “most significant” new product in a decade. While the Legends of Chima line has become LEGO’s fastest growing products, sales of the Friends sets were “significantly higher” than the company average as well. The company expects both of these lines to continue growing with more sets being released for Legends of Chima and Friends in 2014.

LEGO has also boosted its global market share from 8.6 percent from the end of 2012 to 8.8 percent in the first half of this year. Mattel Inc. is still the world’s largest toymaker which had a revenue of $2.16 billion in the first half of 2013 but in terms of profit, The LEGO Group’s net income rose 18 perfect in the first six months of 2013 to 2.48 … Continue

LEGO CUUSOO Jurassic Park Project by Senteosan Shelved

If you’re a LEGO creator and want to list any Jurassic Park projects on LEGO CUUSOO, don’t bother. Yesterday, Senteosan’s Jurassic Park project was archived after only 6,495 supporters and will not be considered for production. The reason? LEGO posted, “since another company has the construction toy license for this IP, we can’t pursue this further as a potential LEGO set.” Back in February of this year, Hasbro, which owns KRE-O, struck a licensing deal with Universal to produce merchandise for the movie franchise. Because of this deal, any Jurassic Park related projects/sets cannot be created by The LEGO Group and in turn anything that bears the JP mark on CUUSOO will be archived. However, Senteosan does have a separate project for his UCS-style Dinosaur series, Bricksauria and that isn’t Jurassic Park related so it’s still live. If you like the design of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, head over to Senteosan’s page and show your support.

Does this decision discourage creators to propose projects that are other companies’ IPs? No it doesn’t but just bear in mind that LEGO has the right to close down a project if it conflicts with a competitive building brick licensor, aka KRE-O/Mega Bloks. LEGO CUUSOO encourages people submit original ideas so there’s less of a chance that your project will conflict with another company’s license. Below is the official LEGO comment on their decision to close Senteosan’s project.

Decision on Our Ability to Produce this Project

First and foremost, congratulations on the well over 5,000 supporters for this project on

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game Stan Lee Trailer

Stan Hulk

During this year’s San Diego Comic Con, it was revealed that Stan Lee himself would be a playable character in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game. Today, there is a new trailer of the game and it features Stan and his character. Stan has done many cameos before in movies and games but this time he can be part of the action. The video shows off some of his skills and powers such as web slingning like Spider-man, “Hulking” up, telekinesis, laser beam from the eyes like Cyclops, and stretching like Mr. Fantastic. With Stan’s character having so many moves at his disposal, it would seem that it’ll take some work to get the playable character. It looks like LEGO Marvel Super Heroes will certainly be a game that both young and old will be playing for a long time. Excelsior!

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Next-Gen Video Game Details

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game Box Art

Digital Spy is reporting that the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game that will be coming out for the next generation systems will have absolutely no loading time, says TT Games Game Director Arthur Parsons. That’s right you future Playstation 4 and Xbox One owners, you will be able to play the game from one scene to the other without waiting. The reason is because the game will be reading off the hard drive and not the disc itself. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes will also be running at a full 1080dp which means crystal clear, smooth gameplay.

For those who are deciding to get the game on the next-gen systems, unfortunately you won’t be getting the Iron Patriot bonus minifigure. For those who are getting it on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii U, there’s still time to pre-order from Walmart and get the bonus minifig. The game is set to be released in October for current generation systems and by the end of the year for the next-gen systems.

GRogall on Eurobricks has reported that the LEGO Creator Expert Winter Village Market (10235) will be available early for LEGO VIP members on September 16th. The official release date of the set is October 1st but VIP members are allowed to purchase it early much like other LEGO exclusive sets. Now here’s the catch. More 2014 LEGO Sets Revealed

LEGO Creator Quad Bike (31022)

Today has been a fairly decent day as far as various sources revealing more 2014 LEGO sets. First off is a user by the name of TAFOL on Eurobricks of another LEGO Creator set that was found on back of the instructions book for the Race Car (31017). As you can see from the image above, it is a yellow Quad Bike (31022). The set is a 3-in-1 set so you can also build a Race Car and a Monster Truck. Also, another word for the Race Car (31017) and the Monkey and Toucan (31019) sets. On the same Eurobricks thread, ljames28 has posted the instructions for those sets and notes that the instructions were only from partial booklets so that may suggest that those sets are also 3-in-1 sets.

Over on Brick Owl, they are reporting that there will a new set based on a MINI Cooper that will be released sometime this year. BMW owns the MINI Cooper line and the company already has a licensing agreement with The LEGO Group. There’s no word if it will be a regular sized set or a polybag like the BMW (40200). Nothing official has been announced yet but there’s still a couple more LEGO conventions left in the year as well as New York Comic Con if LEGO decides to reveal them there.

Another thing that was revealed by Brick Owl was a couple more LEGO Architecture sets that will be available later this year and early next year. One is the Marina Bay Continue
