BrickLink Mosaick Hits Open Beta

BrickLink Mosaick

BrickLink has rolled out the open beta for their newest feature called Mosaick. It is basically a tool to allow anyone to turn an image into a digital LEGO mosaic. This also allows users to adjust resolution and size to their preference and price points.

After you upload an image, Mosaick gives you a number of options for shape, size (5x5in.-60x60in.), color, and part type (plate, tile, brick). It also gives you an estimated price as well as a parts list to show which elements are need to recreate a particular image. I did a mosaic of my logo to see how it looks and it seems to be running pretty smoothly.

The LEGO Group Continues Partnership With WWF to Reduce CO2 Emissions

A few days ago, The LEGO Group announced that it is extending their partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It is an effort to reduce CO2 emissions with their manufacturing and supply chain operations by 2020. The partnership with WWF is to also promote global action on climate change.

LEGO joined with WWF’s Climate Savers Programme in 2014 and has since exceeded all it’s climate targets including:

– Balancing 100% of energy use with renewable sources through investing DKK 6 billion in two offshore wind farms
– Research and development of more sustainable materials
– Improving energy efficiency of producing LEGO bricks by more than 12%

The continued partnership with WWF by TLG has committed to the following by 2020:

– A further 10% increase in carbon (CO2) efficiency per LEGO brick produced
– Continuing to ensure 100% of energy consumption is balanced by production of renewable energy sources

The LEGO Group Achieves 100% Renewable Energy Target Three Years Early

Earlier today, The LEGO Group has announced that they have reached their 100% renewable energy target three years ahead of schedule. After spending about a DKK 6 billion/£700m investment over four years into offshore wind farms, the output from these projects have exceeded the energy use from the LEGO factories, offices, and stores globally. Their latest investment in the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm will provide power for more than 230,000 British households. You can read more about this milestone in the link above.

Facts about Burbo Bank Extension

The Burbo Bank Extension wind farm is a joint venture between DONG Energy (50%) and its partners PKA (25%) and KIRKBI A/S (25%), parent company of the LEGO Group.
The wind farm is located 7 kilometres off the coast of Liverpool and has a capacity of 258 megawatts, enough to supply renewable energy to 230,000 British households.
The wind farm consists of 32 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW wind turbines.
KIRKBI A/S invested approximately DKK 3.3 billion (GBP 375 million) in the construction of the wind farm, bringing the total amount invested in building offshore wind power to over DKK 6 billion (GBP 680 million).

Facts about the LEGO Group’s 100% renewable energy milestone

Since 2012, KIRKBI A/S has invested approximately DKK 6 billion in renewable energy on behalf of the LEGO Group, equivalent to 162 megawatts.
In addition to Burbo Bank Extension, KIRKBI A/S owns 31.5% of the Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm in Germany, which can produce 312 megawatts and provide clean energy for 320,000 … Continue
