Build on Brick Bookends by ThinkGeek

To take a little diversion from the regular news, ThinkGeek has just launched a new product that you might be interested in. If you have lots of books on your shelf, then these new Build on Brick Bookends may just be the thing you need. The set of two bookends have an exterior building surface that are compatible with many construction bricks including LEGO. They also have metal slides for under the books for more stability.

I’ve reviewed ThinkGeek products before including their Build on Brick Mug and the LEGO bricks seems to stay on pretty well. I assume the plates on the bookends will work just as good. You can now order them on their website and the set of two will go for $19.99.

LEGO Subscription Box – BrickSwag April/May 2015 Review

May 2015 Brick Builders Club

The end of April was pretty busy for me as I flew out to attend Philly Brick Fest. While I was there, I received the Brick Builders Club subscription box for April but didn’t get a chance to review it. Today I received the May 2015 box and instead of doing two separate posts for April and May, I might as well combine them into one post. In short, the April box consisted of the exclusive t-shirt, a LEGO Legends of Chima Nest Dive (70105) Speedorz set, five Funky Fig cards, a poster, a 2×3 red #BrickSwag brick, and the Build magazine.

New LEGO Minifigure Display Case Found

LEGO Minifigure Case

It looks like there’s going to be a new and updated LEGO Minifigure Display Case coming in the near future. First discovered over on Brick Fanatics, this new case will feature clear doors in the front to access your minifigures from the front. Another thing that is new about these cases is that they are clear all around so you can fully see all 16 minifigures without having to take them out to look at the back like with previous cases. From the example image, it seems that there’s enough room for both the minifigures and their accessories as well. Like with the previous Minifigure Display Cases that LEGO has produced, they have studs on top that lets you stack multiple cases together.

The current LEGO Minifigure Collectors Box (852820)icon only allows for 15 minifigures so if you’re a collector of the LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series, there’s no way to display all of them unless you cram 2 minifigs in one compartment so this new one is a definite upgrade. Since it’s already listed over in the UK, that probably means it should be available here in the States very soon so keep your eyes peeled for it.

LEGO Exclusive Birthday Cake (40153) Official Images

LEGO Birthday Cake (40153)

Yesterday, I talked about some new LEGO exclusive sets that will most likely be available very soon at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home. One of these sets is the LEGO Birthday Cake (40153). There are now official images of the set courtesy of Brickset. The set contains 120 pieces and includes all the pieces required to build ages 1-99. It also includes a Jester minifigure which is the same one from the 2010 LEGO Kingdoms Court Jester (7953) set. There’s no mentioning of pricing for the Birthday Cake but I believe it’ll be priced at $9.99 like the other smaller LEGO Exclusive sets. Hopefully the Birthday Cake (40153) will be available on June 1st because it’ll be just in time for my birthday in the middle of the month.

New LEGO Sets Found in Denmark

Brickset has revealed a couple of neat LEGO sets from various shops by Aanchir who is over in Billund. Some of these sets are exclusive to LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home like the Birthday Cake (40153) which has enough pieces for you to build from ages 1-99 and includes a Jester minifigure. The other sets are a brick-built Piggy Bank (40155) and a LEGO Friends Organizer (40156) shaped like a butterfly. The last set that’s been found is the LEGO Friends Heartlake City Airport (41009) which will most likely be a retailer exclusive set.

Personally, I really like the Birthday Cake set as I can see it being used for many occasions. I also do like they give you all the pieces needed for the ages. There’s no word on when/if the sets will be available for the rest of the world but I sure do hope they make it here one day.

Philly Brick Fest 2015 LEGO Phillie Phanatic

Philly Brick Fest 2015 LEGO Phillie Phanatic

I’ve finally had time to go through the swag bag for registered attendees from Philly Brick Fest a few weeks ago and one of the items included was a LEGO mini build of the Philadelphia Phillies’ famous mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. The Phanatic is recognized as one of the best sports mascots and was the the first mascot to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.

I believe the LEGO Phanatic build was created by Carter Baldwin (correct me if I’m wrong) and it uses the new LEGO Mixels joints to give it plenty of articulation on the head, arms, and legs. It even has the extendable tongue by the way of a red wand piece. The sticker of the Phillies jersey completes the look of the character.

Overall the mini LEGO Phillie Phanatic is a very neat little build that was included in the swag bag. I really like the look of it compared to the real-life counterpart. I’ll be showing off more swag that I got from my trip in the next few days when I have some free time. I also have tons of pictures to upload of the MOCs that were on dispay so I’ll probably be breaking them up in a couple of posts.
