LEGO BIONICLE Exclusive Tahu Mask from New York Comic Con 2014

Our first LEGO details coming out of New York Comic Con 2014 is the exclusive that they are giving out to attendees. Of course, the event is mainly to reveal more of LEGO BIONICLE and attendees are getting an Exclusive Tahu Mask. As you can see above, it’s a clear mask that is in the same clamshell packaging we’ve seen from SDCC minifigures. Stay tuned for more details of the LEGO BIONICLE reveal throughout the day. Update: There’s now a clearer picture of the transparent Tahu Mask. LEGO is giving you a chance to win one on Twitter. I was told that this version are for the first 200 attendees who lined up at the LEGO booth when the floor opened.

The LEGO Group Ends Partnership with Shell

The Guardian is reporting that The LEGO Group has ended their partnership with Shell. This comes after pressure from Greenpeace and their viral video against Arctic drilling. Before, LEGO announced that the company would live up to their long term contract with the oil company but it looks like LEGO has done a complete 180 on the deal.

The partnership between LEGO and Shell has been going on since the 1960s with the first Shell sets being released in 1966. This most likely means that there will be no more promotional Shell sets being released anymore which makes existing sets go up in value on the secondary market. LEGO CEO Jørgen Vig Knudstorp notes:

“Our stakeholders have high expectations of the way we operate. So do we. We do not agree with the tactics used by Greenpeace that may have created misunderstandings among our stakeholders about the way we operate, and we want to ensure our attention is not diverted from our commitment to delivering creative and inspiring play experiences.”

You can the full statement from Jørgen here. And with that, this post will be the last time that we will be reporting on it.

LEGO Jurassic World Sets Officially Announced by Universal

In a press release (PDF) yesterday by Universal, they have officially announced the licensing partners for Jurassic World and as we already know, The LEGO Group will be one of the partners. There are five sets that are rumored to be in the wave and they will be available in May 2015.

We first heard of the LEGO Jurassic World sets when Chris Pratt, who plays the park keeper Owen, said that he has already seen the look of his LEGO minifigure in an interview. This will be Pratt’s third character to be a LEGO minifigure in two years with Emmet from The LEGO Movie and Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy being the first two.

Universal has been very tight-lipped on any leaked information for Jurassic World, including that video of the trailer, so we probably won’t be seeing any images of the LEGO sets any time soon. There’s a chance that we could hear/see something during the 2015 London Toy Fair in January or the New York Toy Fair in February. Stay tuned for more details of the LEGO Jurassic World sets as they become available.

Universal Partnerships & Licensing (UP&L) today announced that The LEGO Group will create original LEGO®products in conjunction with the release of Jurassic World, the long-awaited next installment in Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking film series that will be released on June 12, 2015. The LEGO Group’s participation rounds out an overall branded toy campaign designed to bring the action, adventure and excitement of the film to audiences around

LEGO Fourth Quarter Pick-A-Brick Elements

While I was at the October 2014 Monthly Mini Build Event yesterday, I had a chance to take pictures of some of the new fourth quarter elements on the LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall. The new elements that have been rotated in will go well with The LEGO Movie and LEGO Legends of Chima themed builds.

For The LEGO Movie parts, we have white inverted 45 slopes, 1×2 gauge tiles, 1×1 trans-red plates, 1×1 purple round plates, 1×1 trans-yellow round plates, and 1×1 orange round plates.

For the Legend of Chima parts, there are 1×2 light bluish gray hinge plates, red jewels, 1×1 dark bluish gray bricks, 1×2 black modified plates with handles, and 2×2 trans-light blue round bricks.

Overall, it’s a nice assortment of elements you can choose from to use for the specified themes or anything in general. Head over to your local LEGO Store to check out the selection as well as the many other elements they have on the Pick-A-Brick Wall. Shout to wall aficionado Genevieve for the hard work.

LEGO Store October 2014 Monthly Mini Build Event Frankenstein Monster (40104) Review

LEGO Store October 2014 Monthly Mini Build Event

The first Tuesday of the month is here again and that means LEGO Brand Stores held the October 2014 Monthly Mini Build. For this month, it is a Halloween themed build with the Frankenstein Monster (40104). My store was extra busy today considering that it is Double VIP Points month. Also this month is also the release of the Series 12 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71007) and many people were trying to feel for the ones they want. As you can see from the images, it was pretty packed.

For the mini build itself, the Frankenstein Monster is a very simple build. You start at the legs and build up to the head. There is no special building techniques or any articulation on the model whatsoever. It seemed that many kids enjoyed the model because Halloween is coming up and it’s something they can use to decorate their house with.

It doesn’t say on the November 2014 LEGO Store Calendar but next month’s build will be a cool Rocket on a launching pad (40105).
