LEGO Seasonal Halloween Set (850936)

There are a couple of new LEGO Seasonal 2014 sets that have been released that may pique your interest. The first is the Halloween Set (850936). It consists of the Lord Vampyre minifigure, a casket from The Vampyre Hearse (9464), a spider, and a cardboard arch on the stand. This set is now available in LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home.

It has a Santa minifigure, a child minifigure which includes a wig hair piece so you can change the gender, a toy train, and a wintery cardboard arch on the stand. LEGO Super Heroes Bat-Signal Building Event at Toys R Us

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Toys R Us Bat-Signal

Toys R Us stores will be holding an event on October 18th from 12-2pm for kids to building the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Bat-Signal. There’s nothing much to the build but it is on a turntable piece and the printed Batman logo radar dish is pretty rare since it’s only in one set, The Batcave (6860). Supplies are limited so get there early if you want in on the building event. I can’t stress enough how long these lines get especially at TRU stores where there’s only a small amount of sets given out. It also looks like it is a US only event.

LEGO Avengers Helicarrier Achieves 10,000 Supporters on LEGO Ideas

The Avengers Helicarrier by Yo-Sub Joo is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. Originally, the project was on created on LEGO Digital Designer and had a whopping 22,694 elements which was 272 x 144 studs (85.4 x 45.3 inches) and was by far one of the largest projects in LEGO CUUSOO/Ideas history.

On the official comments for passing 5,000 supporters, LEGO stated that the project should be revised as a smaller model to be considered as an official set since there was pretty much no way LEGO could produce a 22,000 brick set. The project was revised to reduce the size of the Helicarrier. The new dimensions are 47.2 x 27.7 inches and consists of 6,700 elements.

The Avengers Helicarrier is the first project to reach the Third 2014 LEGO Review Stage and it also holds the distinction of being the first project to reach 10,000 supporters after LEGO CUUSOO become LEGO Ideas. Congratulations to Yo-Sub Joo for this achievement.

Blocks Magazine Will be Available at US Barnes & Noble Stores

Blocks Magazine

The highly popular Blocks LEGO magazine which was first released a few months ago in the UK will now make its way to the US. They have just announced on their Facebook Page that Barnes and Noble stores will be stocking the magazine.

Before, we could purchase online and ship it over here but at pretty expensive shipping costs. Now that we can purchase the magazine locally, we don’t have to worry about that. Also, the first issue has been sold out at a majority of the stores in the UK so clearly there is a market for the magazine. Whether or not it will be the same here for the US remains to be seen but I look forward to reading it if I can find a copy.

There’s still no word yet on when Blocks magazine will be available at Barnes & Noble or how much it will go for at this time. More details as they come.

LEGO Becomes World’s Biggest Toymaker

LEGO has finally topped Mattel as the world’s biggest toymaker according to The Financial Times. Sales were up by 11% from the previous year which was boosted by the popularity of The LEGO Movie. The company posted revenues of DKK11.5bn ($2.03bn) in the first half of this year compared to Mattel’s $2.01bn over the same timeframe. The net profit for the first half of 2014 was DKK2.7m vs DKK2.3m in the first half of 2013.

LEGO was also the world’s most profitable toymaker which turned plastic costing from $1 a kilo to bricks that sell for about $75 a kilo.

In addition, LEGO also had growth of more than 50% in the first half in China where the new Shanghai office and factory helped bring products to the customers in the region.

FT also notes that about 60% of The LEGO Group’s sales are still to come the rest of the year, mostly around the weeks leading up to Christmas. With all the new exclusive sets coming out in the few months like Santa’s Workshop (10245) and the UCS Slave I (76060), there are a lot of holiday gifts to choose from.

LEGO CFO John Goodwin also confirms that the LEGO Ninjago movie will be coming out in 2016 like we reported before.

Finally, Goodwin mentions that the new LEGO Fusion sets were created as a fear of being left behind in the digital world but an opportunity to ensure the physical building experience remains relevant and act as a bridge between physical and … Continue
