LEGO City Design Team Explains New Road Plates (60304) Implementation

The new LEGO City Road Plates (60304) are now available and fans have been getting their first-hand look at them but not without some reluctance to switching from the traditional road plates. The LEGO City Design Team has released a statement on the LAN of why they went with this new road system in which the roads are brick-built. Since the rumors and eventual reveal of the set, there have been a lot of differing opinions on the pros and cons for both the old road plates and the new ones. Which LEGO road system do you prefer?

There are several benefits from the new LEGO® City road plates being introduced in 2021. The new road plates play an integral role in the LEGO City products where it, due to the modular nature of the builds, allows you to be creative and create the LEGO City of your liking. This is the reason we actually believe the new road plate provides a more authentic building experience and also because it can be reconfigured in many ways and it allows you to connect your LEGO City buildings in a better way. Going forward we will also be able to include one or more road plates in relevant products across the LEGO City portfolio. This was something we were not able to with the old version. LEGO Story of Nian (80106) Available at Walmart

For those who can’t wait until January 10, Walmart currently has the LEGO Story of Nian (80106) available for purchase. It’s priced at $79.99 which is the retail price and it’s not really a LEGO exclusive anymore since it has been found here and at Amazon. The only downside is that you won’t get any VIP points for it but you do get to have a bit earlier than if you bought from the LEGO Shop. Thanks to Jason for the heads up.

The US LEGO January 2021 Catalogs have started to hit mailboxes here and I’ve just received my copy. Inside shows pretty much all of the news 2021 sets including some that will be releasing in the near distant future.

The set that I’m highlighting here is the LEGO Ninjago City Gardens (71741). We now have the US price for it which is $299.99 which is the same as the original Ninjago City (70620) from 2017. It has 5,685 pieces and it will be available starting on January 14 for VIPs and February 1 for the general release.

Relieve all the excitement and thrills of 10 years of Ninjago City with this amazing three-tiered model and garden. Packed with 20 minifigures, you can team up again with the ninjas and their allies to play out favorite action scenes from the Ninjago TV series, or proudly display this eye-catching model. An awesome building toy to captivate both older and younger Ninjago fans.

LEGO Ideas Castle of Lord Afol and the Black Knights Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The Castle of Lord Afol and the Black Knights by SleeplessNight is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The build is a modular castle that pays tribute to the LEGO Castle Black Knights from the late 80’s, early 90’s.

The project now joins The Shire, the Hobbithole of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, Among Us: The Skeld Detailed Map, and The Office as the ones to reach the First 2021 Review Stage.

LEGO Seasonal Ice Skating Rink (40416) Promotion Available Again

The promotion for the LEGO Seasonal Ice Skating Rink (40416) is now back again on the LEGO Shop with purchases of $150 or more. The promotion was originally for last month but there wasn’t much to purchase with LEGO’s inventory decimated but it’s back again and with more things to choose from although a lot is still on backorder status. The promotion will run until January 31.

LEGO City Crooks Hideout (60278) Revealed

The building instructions for the new 2021 LEGO sets have started to be published online and Promobricks has discovered a brand new LEGO City set that was not yet seen before. Tentatively called the Crooks Hideout (60278), the set features a two-story building with a brick-built dynamite on the roof. It also includes a larger police truck and a small race car. This set is most likely slated for a March release.
