LEGO Star Wars Celebrates 15th Anniversary

LEGO Star Wars 15th Anniversary

The LEGO Star Wars theme is celebrating their 15th Anniversary and LEGO has released a short video to mark the event. It shows a Darth Vader minifigure standing in front of a cake and with some clever editing, he blows out the candles with the Force.

The description of the video is in French but with the power of Google Translate it is as follows:

15 years LEGO Star Wars supports a galactic adventure to all families. But what would happen if one of the characters LEGO Star Wars decided to come into your houses to bring the action to Father’s Day?

To find out and try to win a lot of gifts LEGO Star Wars visit: http://laforce15ans.fr/

May the Force be with you!

So apparently there is some kind of contest at the link above, although it is currently down, and it looks like it may be a France only contest. Hopefully we’ll also get some kind of contest here in the States as well.

LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) Review

When the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary project by Brent Waller was announced that it will be the next official LEGO Ideas (formerly CUUSOO) set, my mouth literally dropped. Although the firehouse headquarters wouldn’t be included, it was still cool knowing that we would still get the Ecto-1 (21108). The set is now available at LEGO Brand Stores as well as on Shop@Home and it retails for $49.99 with 508 pieces. The set is the first product released under the “LEGO Ideas” name. The box contains six unnumbered bags and one thick instruction booklet.

Box

The front of the box shows the four Ghostbusters minifigures and the Ecto-1 in front of a very cool blue and green smoke effect that is similar to what Brent had in his proposed project. On the bottom right corner, it shows the LEGO Ideas logo and shows that the Ecto-1 is #006 in the product line, continuing from the CUUSOO products. The box lining has some black and yellow stripes much like the top of the ghost trap.

The back of the box shows a very cool action image of Ray, Peter, and Winston crossing the streams from their proton guns while Egon looks on from the side. On the right side, there are a couple of more images inside a film strip of the Ecto-1 showing the removable top of the car and one frame showing the 30th Anniversary of the first Ghostbusters movie. In another frame, it shows Egon saying the famous catchphrase, “Who you gonna call?” and you’ll … Continue

LEGO Store June 2014 Mini Monthly Build Event & Jet Ski Review

LEGO June 2014 Monthly Mini Build

Today was the June 2014 Mini Monthly Build at my local LEGO Brand Store and this month’s build was the Jet Ski (40099). Before the event started, due to the increasing popularity at my store, there was a new strategy implemented to reduce the overcrowding. Instead of kids lining up and waiting their turn to build the set inside the store, they were given a time slot and can do whatever until their specified time has arrived. This new strategy seemed to go pretty smoothly as there was not a whole line of people waiting outside for their turn to build which meant less crowding. Also while at the event, I met a couple of younger fans who requested to take a picture with me (that’s a first). It was unexpected but it was also a pretty cool experience as well.

On to the Jet Ski itself. It’s a simple 33 piece set with no real special pieces or techniques to build it. It was a straightforward build and it comes together quite well at the end. The JetSki can also fit a minifigure which is an interesting trend for this year’s mini builds. The Helicopter (40097) from April could also fit a minifigure as well.

Overall, the Jet Ski is a nice addition to the mini monthly build event. Next month’s build is a beach with a generic white surfboard! The surfboard alone will be one of the cooler parts included in the set.

Is LEGO UCS Tumbler (76023) Confirmed?

As we mentioned in our post of the July 2014 Store Calendar, there will be an exclusive LEGO set being revealed at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con on the July 24-25. Brickset has updated their database with a listing for an Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) set with set number 76023. It is listed under the DC Comics/Universe Super Heroes theme.

As we all know, SDCC is the mecca of comic and movie news so putting two and two together, I can say with a 99.9% certainty that it will most likely be the Tumbler that we did an article about back in February. If this is true, the Tumbler will be the second Batman-themed set with UCS label with The Batmobile (7784) being the first. With all the cool sets that LEGO has released or will be releasing in the future, 2014 has been awesome so far with still six months left in the year! How do you guys feel about having a UCS Tumbler being released this year?

Update: Ed over on Brickpicker “confirms” that the set will be $199.99. Since Ed works with the prices and the database over there for the investors, maybe there’s some secret information that are in the codes. I guess we’ll see if that is correct when/if it is revealed at SDCC.

Update: Yes, the set has been confirmed! See the pictures and read more about it here.

Note: The above image is not the UCS Tumbler. It’s set 7888 from six years ago.

LEGO July 2014 Store Calendar Details

LEGO July 2014 Store Calendar

Since it is now June, the July 2014 Store Calendar is now available and it appears that next month will be a LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed month. The exclusive Flashback Shredder (5002127) we reported back in April will be available for FREE with purchases of $75 or more. The minifigure is valid from July 1-20 or while supplies last. Also for VIP members, you can get an extra 50 VIP points if you purchase the Turtle Sub Undersea Chase (79121). This offer is valid for the whole month.

From July 7-20, head over to your local brand store and build your favorite Ninja Turtle to display.

From July 14-20, there will be a hunt for hidden Ninja Turtles and Shredder throughout the store. If you find them all, you can get a special prize.

On July 26, the LEGO Club meeting will have a cool Leonardo t-shirt.

In non LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles news, the July Mini Monthly Build on July 1st will be a Beach Van (40100).

There will also be an exclusive set reveal at San Diego Comic Con 2014 on July 24-25. We will be there again this year for the coverage. More on this in a later post.

Finally, from July 18-31, VIPs can get special early access to a new exclusive set. We’ll do a separate post on this later.

More Reports of LEGO UCS Slave I Releasing in 2014

DarthAlex92 on Eurobricks has reported that they have some information of a new UCS LEGO Star Wars Slave I that may be released later this year. As we reported last year, there was a rumor already that the Slave I could be coming out this year. So now there are two reports that the Slave I would become an UCS set so it’s plausible that the rumor may be true.

For the details of the UCS Slave I, it will be Boba Fett’s version and will include a brand new Boba Fett minifigure. The model of the Slave I will be similar in size of the new Imperial Star Destroyer (75055).

The information above was acquired by the DarthAlex92 from a LEGO product design manager. What are you thoughts of the new Slave I?

Update: Ed over on Brickpicker “confirms” that the set will have set number 75060 and will be priced at $199.99. Brickset already has the listing in its database as well with the same set number.

First Look at LEGO Minicraft Minifigure-Scale Sets

Late last year, we reported that LEGO would be releasing minifigure-scale sets this year. Legosecrets on Brickipedia has posted a couple of images of what could be two of the six sets, The Cave (21113) and The Farm (21114). There’s no confirmation that these are the official sets and could be just prototypes.

The image of The Cave shows Steve on top of a lava waterfall with a Zombie below. The Farm shows Steve outside in his farm with a Skeleton in the back and a couple of cows. Both sets look to have a crafting table included as well.

Again, these sets may not be the official ones that are released this year but it gives an idea of what they could eventually look like. Sound off in the comments on what are you guys’ initial impressions on the minifigure-scale sets.
