The Culture Show LEGO Documentary – The Building Blocks of Architecture

I always like watching LEGO documentary shows and while during my downtime this week, I came across BBC 2’s The Culture Show episode on YouTube about the company called “LEGO – The Building Blocks of Architecture.” It was released last year but I just recently came across it. The show talks about some of the history of LEGO and how it has impacted our culture from an architecture standpoint. If you have 30 minutes to spare, check out the episode below.

LEGO Jurassic World Video Game Gameplay Details

LEGO Jurassic World Video Game

It’s been LEGO Jurassic World Video Gameicon centric here at The Brick Fan the past two days or so. There are now some gameplay details of it courtesy of Game Informer as they already got their hands on a demo version.

One of the details of LEGO Jurassic World is that there are over 100 playable characters. You get your main cast members from the first movie such as Alan Grant who can build objects from the environment, Ian Malcolm who can toss flares, Ellie Sttler who finds clues by jumping into dinosaur dropping, and Lex who can break glass. The most interesting character to note from GI is that Mr. DNA is also playable. What are his abilities? I don’t know but I sure hope that Greg Burson’s voiceover will be used.

As from the game description we have, you can customize your dinosaur collection by collecting LEGO amber to create new ones. It was noted that there are over 1,000 combinations that you can create, not including color and skin variations.

Some may wonder if LEGO Jurassic World will be as violent as in the movies. TT Games has proven that they can put a humorous twist to what are supposed to be violent scenes. One example is from the trailer the Muldoon scene where he is being hunted. The raptor pops up with fruit on its head. Another scene that has a playful feel to it is during the famous T-Rex scene when the power went out at the park and it causes … Continue

Earlier today, we posted a teaser for LEGO Jurassic World Video Gameicon. Well now the full trailer for the game is available for everyone to watch. My first impression is that it’s everything I came to expect. Being one of my favorite movie franchises, I’m glad to see that a game is coming for it combined with LEGO. No LEGO The Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies DLC Being Released

LEGO The Hobbit Video Game

It’s almost been a year since the LEGO The Hobbit Video Game was released which included the first two films in The Hobbit trilogy with An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug. Many fans have been waiting for a DLC for The Battle of Five Armies to complete the trilogy and TT Games has been pretty mum on whether or not a DLC would even be coming out.

Gamespot today has confirmed with Warner Bros. that there will not be a DLC for the third movie. There are also no plans for a completely new game based on The Battle of Five Armies. Below is Warner Bros. full statement on the issue:

“The LEGO The Hobbit videogame gives LEGO and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson’s film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy.”

It was stated unofficially last year at the London Toy Fair that the final part of the trilogy would come as a DLC that would need to be created. Time went by and fans have been asking when the DLC would be coming. I had no answer as there was nothing announced for it. Time when by and questions kept coming in with no response until today.

So there you have it. … Continue

LEGO Suing Companies for LEGO Friends Patent Infringement

LEGO Friends Logo.svg

The guys over at Brick Fanatics has found an interesting article regarding LEGO Friends and its competition. The National Law Journal is reporting that the US International Trade Commission gave permission for LEGO to go ahead and bring patent and copyright infringement cases against three competitors, MEGA Brands Inc., LaRose Industries, and Best-Lock Construction Toys Inc.

Last year Mattel purchased MEGA Brands Inc. which is the parent company of Mega Bloks and expanded their portfolio to include construction sets based on brands that they already own including Barbie and the recently announced Monster High. The sets that are in question are the “My Life As” ones as seen below.

LaRose Industries is more well known for their Lite Brix construction sets and the particular sets in question are the Sunset Island sets where the figures look fairly similar to the LEGO Friends characters.

The figures in the Best-Lock I’m Teen Little Mermaid sets were claimed to have a nearly exact dimension and proportions as the Friends mini-dolls.

LEGO counsel Elizabeth Alquist and Eric TeVelde of Day Pitney notes the three companies are looking “to capitalize on LEGO’s success by copying its innovations and products and preying on the vulnerability of LEGO’s youthful consuming population, instead of developing their own product lines.”

That statement is pretty true considering that LEGO pretty much has the market cornered with the popularity of the Friends sets. We’ll see what happens when the case actually goes to court but this also shows that LEGO will do what it takes to protect … Continue

BricksLA LEGO Fan Convention Opening in Southern California in May

There will finally be a LEGO fan convention in Southern California this year with an event called BricksLA which was advertised a little this past weekend at Star Wars Days. BricksLA is a LEGO convention that features MOCs, vendors, and activities, pretty much what you see at other LEGO conventions across the US. The unique thing about it is that there’s finally an event that’s closer to home and another one on the west cost in addition to Bricks by the Bay and Brickcon but without the long drive/flight up.

There isn’t much information at this time but what we do know is that it will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center on May 16 & 17. Admission costs are $5 and kids under 12 get in free. There’s will be more info once we get closer to May including AFOL registration.
