LEGO Legends of Chima Video Games in 2013

With the recent arrival of the Legends of Chima sets, LEGO isn’t done pushing their newly established original property. They, along with Warner and TT Games, have announced three video games based on the world of Chima and will be releasing them across various platforms in 2013.

First is a racing mini-game called LEGO Legends of Chima: Speedorz that is already available on LEGO.com today (although I can’t find it anywhere yet) and on the iOS on January 3rd. Players will be racing characters from Chima through many locations in world of Chima collecting items to power up their vehicles and unlocking more content.

The second game coming out is called LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey. This looks to be a game coming out for various handheld systems including the Nintendo 3DS, PS Vista, and the Nintendo DS. The main character will most likely be Laval and his allies will be having an adventure in the world of Chima. The Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita versions will be released in Summer 2013 while the Nintendo DS will be available in Fall 2013.

The final game being released this year revolving around the world of Chima is LEGO Legends of Chima Online. This is a free-to-play online game that allows players to create and customize their kingdom in Chima. Players can also explore the world as well as taking on missions for rewards. We’re not sure if this is a just single player game or a MMO style game.

End of 2012 Updates at The Brick Fan

After coming out of the “Dark Ages” in late 2011, I decided to start a blog just writing about the LEGO sets that I purchase but under a different URL. There were some complications with the URL so I had to change the blog name. On January 18, 2012, The Brick Fan URL officially went live. The site started off slow with very small traffic coming through, like all beginning sites do. We decided to shift our focus from reviewing just what we purchased to more general news in addition to reviews. It wasn’t until San Diego Comic Con 2012 when the site started to pick up and an uptrend of traffic ever since.

We’ve had a great year in 2012 on the blog, much more than I’ve ever expected. The site had 589,000 pageviews from 377,000 unique visits. All of this would not have happened without our loyal readers and we thank you. We’ve also had the pleasure to connect with a lot of amazing people in the LEGO community.

So what does this all mean? It means that we have bigger visions for next year and in the future. We have some things that we plan on rolling out, which some of you might be excited to see. We would also like your suggestions on how to improve the site such as what you like to see more or less of. Just fill out our contact form and give us your suggestions.

We’re looking forward to see what happens in 2013 with all the … Continue

LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles Premiere Date Announced

The premiere date of the LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles has been announced on the official LEGO Star Wars blog and it will be exactly one week from today, January 5th. There was a TV commercial on the Cartoon Network that was shown yesterday night but I’ve checked the TV listings for January 5th and didn’t see the show on the schedule. Although it didn’t show up on the schedule, that doesn’t mean it can’t change as we get closer to the premiere date.

Update: The premiere date of January 5 announced by LEGO was incorrect and will actually be Friday, January 11. LEGO has updated their blog with more details.

Unfortunately the date that was earlier posted on the blog regarding the launch of this year’s big story The Yoda Chronicles was not correct. It will launch on Friday January 11th.
However, we have more cool news to tell you now. Throughout the whole year, starting from January 11th you will have access to a new portal filled with weekly updates. This will truly be awesome for all of us!

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Advent Calendar (9509) Round Up

The 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendar (9509) is now completed and there is a mixed reaction on this set. There are a few hits and a few misses as well with the calendar. With less pieces used than 2011 calendar, will this set hold up to the last year’s model?

Hits

There are a few vehicles that I thought were hits including the Star Destroyer from Day 4 and the Naboo Starfighter from Day 7. For the minifigures, I thought that the Snowman R2-D2 on Day 23 and the Santa Darth Maul in the final day were the best overall minifigures in the set.

Misses

There are also misses with the 2012 Advent Calendar such as the MTT from Day 5 and the Separatist Shuttle in Day 19. I just didn’t think that LEGO captured the representation of the vehicles that well. All the minifigure were decent except for the obligatory addition of the Security Battle Droid from Day 6.

Results

Overall, the 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendar is a decent set. It comes in at 236 pieces, much less than the amount of 266 pieces the 2011 version had so the quality isn’t as up to par as last year. The set retails for $49.99 but it’s been on sale for a while now. Look for it to be on discount in stores now that Christmas has passed. Now is time to wait for next year’s advent calendar.
