LEGO Scooby-Doo The Mystery Machine (75902) Review

When rumors started last year that there would be a new LEGO Scooby-Doo theme, many fans were excited about it but some were also skeptical on how the sets would look like. That is until when the first images came out early this year and worries were relieved. All the sets were also available at San Diego Comic Con a few weeks ago to attendees and they quickly flew off the shelves. They are now officially available and the sets have become hard to find as many old-school Scooby-Doo fans as well as newer fans wanted a piece of the action.

One of the sets I’ve managed to pick up is one of the most iconic vehicles in television history in my opinion, The Mystery Machine (75902). The set contains 263 pieces and retails for $29.99 which is a decent price for what you get. The contents of the box include three numbered bags, two instruction booklets, and one large sticker sheet.

LEGO Ideas WALL•E (21303) Reviewed by BrickInside

There hasn’t been much information about the new LEGO Ideas WALL•E (21303) since it was accidentally revealed back in June until now. Korean LEGO community BrickInside has somehow managed to acquire the set and has done an in-depth review on it, albeit in Korean. You can still translate the words but the most important things to look at are all the pictures the OP has provided. One thing that I got out of is that it says the release date was September 1 although Smyths had it listed as a December release so I’m not sure which one is correct until LEGO officially reveals it and provides the details. LEGO Scooby-Doo Sets Available on Amazon

Within a few hours of being available on Shop@Home, a majority of the LEGO Scooby-Doo sets have become out of stock. The sets were also flying off the shelves at my LEGO Store but I managed to pick up a couple of them. The sets have also shown up at Walmart, Target, and Toys R Us but if you don’t want to hunt, Amazon has you covered with four of the five sets still at retail price and are Prime eligible.

What is LEGO “Big Bang” and Rumors of New 2016 Theme

Yesterday, I posted a list of potential 2016 LEGO sets and at the very top of the list was a thing called LEGO BB or “Big Bang.” Not to be confused with the LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory (21302), “Big Bang” is an internal term used by LEGO for a new IP that has a major media campaign to go along with it much like Ninjago from 2011 and Legends of Chima in 2013.

This takes us to 2016 where we’ve been given various hints and specualation on what this new theme is. First we have Amazon where there is an Activity Book and a Mini Guide which gives the description:

An activity book featuring the heroes, villains, vehicles, and locations from the top secret, NEW LEGO brand!

So we know that there is indeed a new theme coming in 2016 but what could it be? I’ve reported before there was a rumor of a LEGO Castle Fantasy Era theme. That rumor has slightly changed and word going around on Eurobricks is that there’s a new theme called “Space Knights” which is said to combine elements of both Castle and Steampunk.

As you may have seen on Flickr and MOCPages, LEGO Steampunk is a pretty cool subtheme that the community likes to dabble in. Heck, there’s even a whole book dedicated to LEGO Steampunk builds by Guy Himber who is one of the forerunners in the scene.

Possible LEGO 2016 Set List?

An interesting list popped up over on BrickPicker that could be a potential list of the first-half 2016 LEGO sets for various themes. This list does correspond to earlier rumors of some City and Ninjago sets for next year. The list was scrambled when I looked at it so I tried to organize it into separate themes. If you look closely, there could be a hint to what the next modular set could be. Keep in mind this isn’t an official list.

LEGO Summer 2015 Wave Sets Now Available on Shop@Home

It’s August on the east coast and that means the summer 2015 wave of sets are now officially available at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home. The main set that will be available is the LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory (21302). It’s very possible that the set will be sold very quickly since it appeals to both TBBT fans as well as LEGO fans in general.

Other new sets that are available include various themes like Scooby-Doo, Marvel Super Heroes, DC Comics Super Heroes, Ninjago, TECHNIC, Friends, Elves, and BIONICLE. For the first half of the month with purchases of $75 or more, you can get the LEGO Classic Pirates Set (5003082) for free. Bricks Culture Magazine Issue #2 Review

As I mentioned a few days ago, I received a couple of UK-based LEGO magazines and the other one that I got was the second issue of Bricks Culture. If you haven’t heard before, Bricks Culture is a higher end, quarterly magazine that takes a more in-depth look at the different “cultures” that have spawned from the adult LEGO community. The magazine is spearheaded by Mark Guest with various contributors who you may have heard of like Huw from Brickset and Tim Johnson from The New Elementary.

My first impression of taking the magazine out of the packaging is that it’s hefty. It’s made of a heavier stock paper than typical magazines so you get a premium feel when you hold it. Just flipping through, you get this snap from pages which I appreciate since I don’t have many magazines that are comparable to it.

After reading through it, you get a different vibe as from other LEGO magazines. There’s no reviews or tips on how to build something. What you get are stories about different builders and what they’ve done so far to get to where they are at now in their LEGO careers. Some of the people featured in this issue of Bricks Culture include Fairy Bricks, Harley Quin (InkBlot Photo), and Paul Lee, just to name a few.
