The folks over at Blocks has sent over the press release for Issue 16 of the magazine.

Issue 16 of Blocks Magazine is now with subscribers, and will be in shops on Thursday 21st January.

Elsewhere, we dive into our ‘Build It’ section to show you how to construct your own transforming Optimus Prime model, with step-by-step instructions and a guide to sourcing all the parts you’ll need, and find out how you can recreate long-retired sets without breaking the bank.

There’s much more besides, as Daniel Konstanski takes us through the history of ramp and pit baseplates, while Simon Pickard investigates how LEGO can save a national heritage site from ruin. It’s all topped off with an exclusive interview with Matt De Lanoy, the man behind one of LEGO Ideas’ fastest-growing projects.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 14 (71010) Set #3 Giveaway Winner Announced

Do I smell a giveaway in the near future?

I almost totally forgot about this but last Christmas, I did a contest to giveaway the last set of the Series 14 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71010). The contest has been over for a few days and the winner of them is:

Chris B. – Branson, MO

Again, these minifigures were provided by the LEGO AFOL Relations & Programs Team and hopefully for this year I’ll have different styled contests, like building ones, to give away to the readers which allows you to show off your work to the community.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 15 (71011) Showing Up at Target

If you’ve been waiting for the Series 15 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71011) to be released on February 1st, you may want to check out Target stores. I’ve gotten a few messages from readers who have found them in stores and are able to purchase them without being blocked at the registers while paying for them. YMMV on that but it’s worth checking out. Of course if you’re in other parts of the world, they’ve already been released in the beginning of the year.

LEGO Star Wars Buildable Figures Captain Phasma (75118) Review

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakes Buildable Figures Captain Phasma (75118)

In the beginning of the year, LEGO released some new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens sets including the new wave of Buildable Figures sets. This includes some of the main characters in the movie including Captain Phasma (75118). The set has 82 pieces and retails at $24.99. The higher price is slightly justified by some of the items which I’ll explain a little later. The contents of the box include two un-numbered bags, a bagged cape, a loose torso frame, and the instructions booklet.

LEGO Creator Parrot (30472) Polybag Review

LEGO Creator Parrot (30472) Polybag

If you were able to pick up the LEGO 2016 Wall Calendar last November/December, there were some coupons that you could redeem at LEGO Brand Stores this year for some promotional items. From January 1-March 31, you can get a FREE 43-piece Parrot (30472) polybag with any purchase, while supplies last.

LEGO Creator Parrot (30472) Polybag

The Parrot is very simple build with you just stacking bricks up. There is some articulation in the build with the tail being on a hinge so it can move up and down. The wings are on the newer ball joints and so you can rotate them in plenty of directions.

LEGO Creator Parrot (30472) Polybag

The Parrot (30472) is a middle-of-the-road polybag. It is kind of cute but nothing else beyond that. Since it is free with any purchase, especially will all the newly released sets, it’s a decent pick up. If you don’t have a coupon to redeem it, the building instructions are now available online so you can create your own.

Two New LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Polybag Images Found

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens The Finalizer (30277)

Polybag hunters, there are now images for some new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens polybags that will be coming out this year. The first one above is the First Order Star Destroyer, also called The Finalizer (30277). It has the same Resurgent-class Star Destroyer but it has some minor changes to it.

The other polybag is a miniature Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle (30279). It’s pretty much a smaller version of set 75104icon.

Thanks to Joey for heads up.

The Brick Fan 2015 Recap

Well 2015 is in the books and it was another successful year on The Brick Fan so let’s take a look at what happened last year. Prepare to be inundated with statistics so let’s do a little recap of some of the numbers for the site last year. As you can see from the graph below, we saw another increase in traffic last year which went up for about 60% compared to the 2014. Subsequently, other metrics increased accordingly including first-time visitors which went up 56% while returning visitors went up 70%.

There were also some traffic milestones that were achieved in 2015. We finished the year with 17.5 million page views with October 11 being the highest recorded traffic day with 105,085 page views with a majority of it being for the official 2016 images post. That day also gave the most of active number of users on the site with 779. Unless somehow a post goes viral, I doubt that I’ll see a number that high anytime soon. Finally, we ended the year with December being the most visited month of 2015.

In regards to our social media sites, the Facebook Page went from 4,137 in 2014 to 7,513 at the end of 2015.

Over on Twitter, there were 1,526 new followers in 2015 and we ended the year with 5,379.

Finally on Google+, we ended 2015 with 1,856 followers which was a sharp increase from 516 in the beginning of the year.
