LEGO Ideas LEGO Lightsabers Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The LEGO Lightsabers: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker project by Scott34567 has become the latest project to hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. This project was first submitted in 2012 and consists of two brick-built lightsabers with a display stand. The set takes on the recognizable look of Luke and Vader’s lightsabers from Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi. Scott34567 also claims that the hilts are sturdy enough to bring to convention crowds. They would definitely make great accessories for San Diego Comin Con.

The project now joins Assault on Wayne Manor, Invisible Hand, and X-Men: X-Mansion as the ones that are currently qualified for the second LEGO Ideas Review Stage. The Labyrinth Marble Maze now becomes the highest supported project on LEGO Ideas.

LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) Review

When the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary project by Brent Waller was announced that it will be the next official LEGO Ideas (formerly CUUSOO) set, my mouth literally dropped. Although the firehouse headquarters wouldn’t be included, it was still cool knowing that we would still get the Ecto-1 (21108). The set is now available at LEGO Brand Stores as well as on Shop@Home and it retails for $49.99 with 508 pieces. The set is the first product released under the “LEGO Ideas” name. The box contains six unnumbered bags and one thick instruction booklet.

The front of the box shows the four Ghostbusters minifigures and the Ecto-1 in front of a very cool blue and green smoke effect that is similar to what Brent had in his proposed project. On the bottom right corner, it shows the LEGO Ideas logo and shows that the Ecto-1 is #006 in the product line, continuing from the CUUSOO products. The box lining has some black and yellow stripes much like the top of the ghost trap.

The back of the box shows a very cool action image of Ray, Peter, and Winston crossing the streams from their proton guns while Egon looks on from the side. On the right side, there are a couple of more images inside a film strip of the Ecto-1 showing the removable top of the car and one frame showing the 30th Anniversary of the first Ghostbusters movie. In another frame, it shows Egon saying the famous catchphrase, “Who you gonna call?” and you’ll … Continue

LEGO Ideas Winter 2014 Results Revealed

The LEGO Ideas Winter 2014 results have been revealed on the LEGO Ideas blog. Just as we predicted, the Female Minifigure Set by Ellen Kooijman (Alatariel) will indeed be the next official LEGO Ideas set and the set will be named “Research Institute.” Although the final design is still being worked out, we do know the set number will be 21110 and will most likely retail for $19.95. It has a projected release of August 2014 which is on or around the same time as the Exo Suit (21109).

All the other projects in the Winter 2014 Review Stage will not be produced which includes Sherlock, Macross VF-1 Valkyrie, Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter, Japanese Old Style Architecture, The Adventure Time Project, and the BTTF – UCS DeLorean Time Machine.

The first LEGO Review Stage of 2014 is currently being reviewed and the results will be available late summer/early fall. The projects that are in review are LEGO Bird Project, Modular Apple Store, BTTF – Jules Verne Train, Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, and Doctor Who and Companions.

What are your thoughts of the Research Institute being the next official set? We’ve already had a few positive comments for it on our Facebook Page. Sound off in the comments below.

Female Minifigure Set May Be Next Official LEGO Ideas Product

The LEGO Ideas Female Minifigure Set by Alatariel could be the next official product being released by LEGO. Ed over at Brickpicker has been posting information about future sets and their rumored prices and one post caught my eye which states “21110 Research Institute $19.95” so I did some research. If the LEGO Ideas continues with their set number structure, the next product would have 21110 since the Exo Suit has 21109. Also, on the project page itself, the description of the set is as follows:

I would like to propose that the final set will represent a versatile Research Institute comprising the labs of the Astronomer, the Paleontologist, and the Chemist.

Research Institute. The exact words from Ed’s post in the forums. Again, putting two and two together, it may seem that The Female Minifigure Set has passed the review because it was still being further evaluated when the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) was announced. If this is the case, we will probably be getting a fairly small set with a female Astronomer, Paleontologist, and a Chemist or something similar to the proposed project. What do you guys think of this theory?

Note: The images above are from the proposed project and not the official images.

Update: It is confirmed that the project will indeed be the next LEGO Ideas product.
