Philly Brick Fest 2016 Registration Now Open

Registration for Philly Brick Fest 2016 is now live and you sign up to be a full participant. This means you can attend all four days and participate in activities not available to the public. The event will be held on April 28-May 1 and there some new things planned for next year. Beforehand, I’ve sent over a couple of questions about the event. Also check out the official press release below.

TBF: What is the goal for PBF 2016?

CC: This is our 3rd year running for Philly Brick Fest, and while we are still relatively young, there are already a handful of newer conventions that have popped up behind us like BrickSlopes and BricksLA. With Brick Fest Live running all year long, we have been able to meet and interact with LEGO User Groups (LUGs) and Fans of LEGO (FOLs) all over the country. Inevitably, we start talking about LEGO conventions and always extend the invite for them to join us in Philly. Since PBF hit the scene in 2014, which was also the height of LEGO-mania with the launch of the LEGO movie, LUGs and FOLs alike have more choices than ever before to choose the events they want to attend and participate in. We want the world to know that THIS event, Philly Brick Fest, is a “Destination Convention”. Our FOL schedule is packed with activities and surprises, and most of all we know fans gravitate to this event for each other.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 15 (71011) Sneak Peek

Earlier today, the official list for the Series 15 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71011) were revealed and now there’s a sneak peek of a few of the characters in the wave. The image comes from what appears to be the back cover of the latest LEGO Club Magazine. Here you can see the Costume Shark Guy, Awkward/Clumsy Man, and the Queen.

I don’t know about you but the Costume Shark Guy looks really similar to the Left/Right Shark in Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show from earlier this year.

Again if you didn’t see the list this morning, they are as follows:

Queen
Head of Animal Control
Jewel Thief
Tribal Woman
Dancer
Flying Warrior/Road Warrior
Wildlife/Satyr
Scary Knight
Wrestling Champion
Costume Shark Guy
Awkward/Clumsy Man
Kendo Fighter/Wrestler
Astronaut
Laser Robot
Concierge
Farmer

LEGO Inside Tour 2016 Details Announced

LEGO has announced next year’s dates for the LEGO Inside Tour 2016. Registration will open on November 9 on the link mentioned at 10:00am CET until November 13 at 10:00am CET. The tour dates for 2016 will be:

May 11-13
May 25-27
June 8-10
June 22-24

Now to the logistics for it. the price per person is 14,500 DKK or around $2,100, not including any travel costs. The price includes 2 overnight stays with breakfast and catering as well as entry to LEGOLAND.

As with previous tours, there are limited number of attendees so if you want to participate, I suggest planning for the registration because they usually sell out pretty fast.

If you’re still skeptical about the LEGO Inside Tour, everyone that I’ve met who has attended before says that it’s totally worth it. You get to meet LEGO designers and employees, take a factory tour, and get some nice swag to go along with it.

LEGO Shortage Looming This Holiday Season

Here’s something that’s making headlines today which was first reported over on by Brickset yesterday. If you want to give LEGO sets for Christmas as presents, you might want to purchase them now because there might be a shortage this coming holiday season. LEGO spokesman Roar Trangbaek notes:

“We will not be able to deliver all of the new orders coming from customers in the remainder of the year in some markets in Europe”

The report only mentions Europe at this time but who knows if this shortage will be affecting the States later this year. We have seen a little bit of this shortage mainly with the LEGO Jurassic World sets they have been out of stock on Shop@Homeicon for a while and has had limited quantities in stores ever since the movie came out in June. Another example of a potential shortage may be the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakensicon sets especially when the movie is released in December. I have a feeling these sets will be flying off the shelves starting Black Friday weekend and will probably be hard to get for a while.

Overall sales have grown by 18% in the first half of 2015 and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon. LEGO CFO John Goodwin notes:

“The high demand also puts a strain on our factories around the world.”

As a result, LEGO has announced that they are planning to invest in factories around the world including Mexico, Hungary, and Denmark to match the demand of LEGO … Continue
