LEGO Ninjago Dareth vs. Nindroid Polybag (5002144) Review

Recently there have been many Toys R Us exclusive polybags showing up at Toys R Us and the latest one we’ll be reviewing is the LEGO Ninjago Dareth vs. Nindroid (5002144). We first saw this polybag way back in September when it showed up at TRU UK.

The main draw of the polybag is the Dareth “Brown Ninja” minifigure that is included. He is in his brown gi which also has printing of his star chain necklace. The back of the torso has a gold star printing. His legs are also the same brown color with some gold printing. He also has the cool brown swept back hair. His accessory is one of his fake trophies that he used to boast his ego in the TV series.

The other minifigure in the set is one of the Nindroid Warrior minifigures. There’s nothing too special about the Nindroid as it has the same printing thoughout the 2014 wave. Its accessory is a sai.

Overall although the 5002144 polybag doesn’t have much substance, it is currently the only way to get the Dareth Brown Ninja minifigure which is nice since you don’t have to purchase a set to get him. Dareth vs. Nindroid is currently available for $4.99 at Toys R Us stores as well as on their website with free shipping for a limited time.

LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide Book Review

A few days ago, I received a package in the mail from DK and inside was the fairly recent released LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide. I actually got two copies of the book so I’ll be doing a giveaway after the review so stay tuned for that.

LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide

LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide

The book itself is a hardback which contains 232 pages and retails for $40. Like all other DK books, you know you’ll be getting high quality content as well as crisp images. In collaboration with LEGO and Adam Reed Tucker, The Visual Guide takes a look at the LEGO Architecture sets along with builders and the inspiration behind the set.

The first thing you notice when you first look at the LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide is the sheer size of it. The book comes with a nice slipcover which features some of the more recognizable Architecture sets.

The book starts off with an introduction with the beginnings of the LEGO Architecture theme which actually started in the 1960s and how LEGO artist Adam Tucker Reed revived the theme. LEGO noticed Adam’s models and were so impressed with his vision that they relaunched the Architecture line in 2008. The book also takes a look at the four LEGO designers who have worked on the theme including Steen Sig Andersen, Rok Zgolin Kobe, Jorn Kristian Thomsen, and Michael Hepp.

In between the previous chapters is a visual timeline of all 22 LEGO Architecture sets that have been produced since 2008. This timeline is split into the Landmark Series and … Continue

LEGO Store December 2014 Monthly Mini Build Event Gingerbread House (40105) Review

LEGO December 2014 Monthly Mini Build

Today was the last Monthly Mini Build event for 2014 and it was a highly anticipated one. For the holidays, LEGO has gone with the Gingerbread House (40105) for the December build. We finally get some needed rain here in San Diego but that didn’t deter families from waiting in line to get their set. I was surprised that many families also wanted to build the Gingerbread House in the store and didn’t mind that it was raining. Now that’s dedication!

Kids also had the opportunity to build some ornaments back at the Pick-A-Brick wall. This was Genevieve’s idea which was inspired by LEGO builder Chris McVeigh and his holiday building guides. Although I wasn’t able to take any pictures of the builds, I did see there were some pretty cool Christmas tree built.

LEGO December 2014 Monthly Mini Build

For the Gingerbread House (40105) itself, it contains 54 pieces which is the second largest Mini Build of the year next to the March Spring Tree (40096). The house has your typical Gingerbread House look with the white frosting roof and the 1×1 studs representing candy. The front of the house also has a brick-built candy cane. The only thing I thought that was off was the 2×4 yellow brick that was used instead of a brown one.

Overall, the Gingerbread House is a well made set that goes great with your Winter themed sets. The January 2015 Monthly Mini Build will be an Alien with a space dog which you can see on the January 2015 LEGO Store Calendar.… Continue

LEGO Subscription Box – BrickSwag November 2014 Review

Brick Builders Club November 2014 Box

It’s that time of the month again. The November 2014 Brick Builders Club subscription box is here so let’s take a look at what we get for this month. If you haven’t seen the reviews of Brick Builders Club before, check out the September and October boxes to see what you can potentially get.

Brick Builders Club November 2014 Box

The first item in this month’s box is the guaranteed exclusive t-shirt that you get every month. This one is a light blue shirt and the design is a pile of LEGO bricks with a danger sign. As many of us may have experienced before, stepping on LEGO bricks is not a good feeling.

The next item is a LEGO Knights’ Kingdom II Catapult (5994) polybag. This set was originally released in 2005 and retailed for only $0.99. The catapult consists of 27 pieces and contains a fairly rare medium blue horse helmet.

Next is a small temporary tattoo sheet featuring some pirate themed tattoos such as a pirate flag, a mom LEGO heart, and an anchor.

Continuing on with the Brick Builders Club, we again have some Funky Fig trading cards courtesy of The Mad Stacker. What I like about these cards is the old school feel and the glossy quality they have.

Another new item that’s in this month’s box is a foam traffic cone with the caption “Building in Progress.” This is an awesome novelty item that I can have on my desk whenever I’m building and it wouldn’t look distracting.

LEGO Christmas Train Ornament (5002813) Review

At the LEGO Store Exclusive 2014 Holiday VIP Shopping Event, there were freebies that were given out including a new Christmas Train Ornament (5002813). The Christmas Train Ornament contains 26 pieces including the string. It comes in a nice dark red pouch inside a sealable wrapper.

The train itself is a simple build with the string going around the round 2×2 plate with eye. The stars on the wheels give the train a little flair and gives it some color besides the black, white, and red design. Unless I’m wrong, I believe the only exclusive part is the 2014 2×2 white plate.

Overall, Christmas Train Ornament (5002813) was a nice gift given out to VIPs at the shopping event. The red pouch is also a nice touch and I appreciate that it wasn’t just a standard polybag. There’s no word at this time whether or not it will be available for customers later on.

LEGO Store November 2014 Monthly Mini Build Event Rocket (40103) Review

LEGO November 2014 Monthly Mini Build

Today was the November 2014 Monthly Mini Build event at LEGO Stores. For this month’s build, it was a cool-looking Rocket (40103). Not only you get the aircraft, you also got the build the launching pad and tower as well as the command center building. There are 47 pieces in the build itself and also some leftover pieces. If you were able to get one of the Rocket (40103) sets, it makes a nice display piece.

For the December 2014 Monthly Mini Build, it will be a Christmas-themed build with a mini Gingerbread House. Although it doesn’t show on the December 2014 LEGO Store Calendar, it will be held on December 2nd at 5pm local time.

LEGO December 2014 Monthly Mini Build

You may have noticed that the mini builds haven’t been listed on the store calendar for last two months of the year. From what I’ve been hearing from different sources, the December 2014 Mini Build will be the last one for the foreseeable future. From what’s been said, LEGO has no plans on bringing it back in 2015 and there’s no word if anything will be replacing the mini builds or not.

Obviously, this is a little disappointing because many kids as well as adults do look forward to the events every month. It was a fun way for people who go to the events every month to catch up with each other while the kids are building. Next month’s Gingerbread House could be the very last Monthly Mini Build ever so if you want to get one, head … Continue
