LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary: Updated and Expanded Review

Back in 2009, DK Books released the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary by Simon Beecroft. The book comprised of images and facts of LEGO Star Wars sets up to that point. It’s been five years since that book has been published and many more sets have been released since then. This year marks the 15th Anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars theme and what a better time to release a new edition of the book aptly called the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary: Updated and Expanded. The book retails for $21.99 and contains 144 pages. Simon Beecroft returns as the author of the Visual Dictionary and Jason Fry joins as the co-author.

Cover

Like all other LEGO DK reference-type books, the Visual Dictionary is hardcover and has a holographic shine on the front and back of the book. It now features the iconic bounty hunter, Boba Fett, who replaces Darth Vader who graced the cover in the previous book. The lower right-hand corner has a window that shows the exclusive minifigure of the book, Luke Skywalker.

Minifigure

To commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars theme, DK went back to its roots and has included the yellow skinned Luke Skywalker minifigure. This version of Luke pays homage to the one that was in the Landspeeder from back in 1999. Although there are similarities between the two, this new Luke has updated printing on the torso and legs. The back also has printing which the original version did not have. There’s been … Continue

New LEGO Star Wars Summer 2014 Set Found

The summer wave of LEGO Star Wars sets are starting to hit shelves early and there’s a new report on Hoth Bricks of a store exclusive set will also be released this summer with the set number 75058. There is an image from the instructions of the new Mos Eisley Cantina (75052) featuring six minifigures including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, a Naboo Royal Security Guard, a Battle Droid Pilot, a Battle Droid, and a PK-4 Worker Droid.

From the looks of it, the set will be centered around Naboo. The PK-4 was in a cut scene from Episode I where it was stationed aboard the Saak’ak before the Invasion of Naboo so the set could be themed around that. Official images of the set are not available at this time since it is a retailer exclusive. There are many possibilities of what the set could be so what are your thoughts about it?

LEGO Fall 2014 DK Books List

LEGO Architecture The Visual Guide

Coming off our report of the new LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side book from DK Publishing, the DK Fall 2014 Trade Catalog is now available and there are some other notable LEGO DK books that will be coming out this fall. One of these new books is the LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide. This book contains a whopping 232 pages of information about all the LEGO Architecture sets and the real life buildings that inspired them. Read more about the book below. This looks to be a very nice coffee table book to have and I’m very excited for this one. The Visual Guide is available for pre-order on Amazon and will be available on August 18th.

Created in close collaboration with The LEGO Group and Adam Reed Tucker, LEGO® Architecture visionary, LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide takes a deep look at the artists, builders, and inspiration behind the LEGO Architecture series. Beautifully illustrated and annotated, this visual guide allows you to explore the LEGO team’s creative process in building and understand how LEGO artists translated such iconic buildings into these buildable LEGO sets.

Stunning images and in-depth exploration of the real buildings like the Guggenheim™ or the Empire State Building, on which the LEGO Architecture series is based, provide you with a comprehensive look at the creation of these intricate sets. Learn why the LEGO team chose certain pieces and what particular challenges they faced. Read about the inspiration behind the creative processes and what designing and building techniques were used on various sets.

LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side Book Cover

LEGO Star Wars The Dark Side

Hoth Bricks has an image of the cover for the new LEGO Star Wars book from DK Publishing, LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side. This book features all the information you need to know about LEGO sets and minifigures from the Dark Side of the Force. I would assume that there will be more in-depth details on the Dark Side than the new Updated and Expanded Visual Dictionary since this book primarily focuses on it. Like with many other LEGO DK books, there will be an exclusive minifigure included. This character is still mystery but I’m sure it’ll be revealed a few weeks before the book is released. LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side has 96 pages and will be available in September but you can pre-order it now on Amazon.

Journey to the dark side of a galaxy far, far away and meet the LEGO® Star Wars minifigure members of the ruthless Imperial Army in LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side!

Witness Darth Vader battling Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, meet the Sith and all of Darth Vader’s minifigure subjects, and explore the Death Star and all of the Sith starships. Turn the pages to find facts and information about your favorite LEGO Star Wars minifigures and vehicles from the dark side in action-packed situations and discover everything there is to know about the legendary Darth Vader.

With new and exciting photography and an evil exclusive minifigure, LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side will have you questioning on which side your allegiances lie.

LEGO Store May 2014 Mini Monthly Build Dragon (40098) Review

LEGO May 2014 Mini Monthly Build - Dragon (40098)

The May 2014 Mini Monthly Build was held at LEGO Brand Stores yesterday and this month they had the Dragon (40098) available for kids to build. The set contains 43 pieces and you get a cool little green dragon. There’s not that many interesting pieces except for the fairly new LEGO Mixels eyes but you also get a spare one as well. The playability is rather limited but the wings and tail can move on hinges. The Dragon does fit into your Castle/Medieval MOCs if you desire. Here are the instructions if you want to build your own.

Coming up next month is a lime green jetski, just in time for summer. Be sure to get there early or else you risk the store running out of stock.
