LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle (10212) Review

Around Christmas 2011, I was looking around different sites to see if there were sales going on at that time. To my delight, there was a sale on Amazon.com for the LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle. Not really wanting to spend that much on a LEGO set but it was a deal that I couldn’t pass up. The set includes 2503 pieces and retails for $259.99, which is at $0.09/piece. The bricks come in many bags, and when I say many, I mean many! The bags aren’t numbered but are organized very well. I recommend a big table to spread out the pieces when assembling because there will be at least ten different piles. There are four instruction booklets included in a polybag with a cardboard backing so the booklets wouldn’t get wrinkled. The set was released in September 2010.

Being Adult Fans of LEGO

I love LEGO. Who doesn’t love LEGO? You take little bricks and create wonders with your imagination. Growing up with the basic bricks and building crazy and colorful structures and vehicles made me happy. Now I’m all grown up and I’m proud to be an AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO).

For the past couple of months, my love for the bricks came back again after almost two decades of dormancy. The sets that interested me on my return were the Harry Potter and especially the Star Wars sets. As a Star Wars fan, I love how the whole universe is recreated by these tiny bricks, ranging from all the vehicles and ships to the minifigs themselves. There’s also a sense of satisfaction when each set is completed and you can say to yourself “Wow!”

There are thousands if not millions of AFOL’s in the world but there’s one in particular, besides my girlfriend, that I can thank for rekindling my passion for LEGO, Chris Pirillo. I’ve been following Chris and the Lockergnome community for many years now for technology news but I also enjoy his LEGO videos as well. He has even mentioned that his LEGO videos bring in more traffic than his tech videos. Chris recently did an interview for a LEGO radio documentary on a TLDR episode discussing his experience with LEGO.

Here is also one of his many LEGO articles he’s written: http://chris.pirillo.com/i-like-lego/. Although it’s an older article, it’s a good one. Much like how the bricks themselves are timeless.

This set is an exclusive set to Walmart and LEGO Shop and the box is listed as a “Special Edition.” Retail price on this set is $24.99 which makes it around a decent $0.15/piece.

Christmas Haul

Christmas 2011 came and went and boy did I end up with a lot of LEGO sets. I didn’t expect to end up with so much but there were a lot of sales going on and I had to snatch them up. My girlfriend also gave me a couple of sets as well including some great minifigs. As you can see, I did splurge this year. My greatest haul this year was probably the Imperial Shuttle that I got on sale from Amazon. Let me show off the sets individually, the front and the back of the boxes.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day Round Up

What can I say about the LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar! It is a great set for the price and for the very first Star Wars Advent Calendar, you certainly get what you paid for. You get 9 minifigs, 11 different vehicles, as well as 4 objects. I really like the minifigs especially Santa Yoda and R2-Q5, which only came in the LEGO Death Star set. Most of the vehicle builds are pretty good replicas of their bigger brothers. You also get plenty of extra pieces for other builds.

For my dislikes, there were some builds that just weren’t good such as the Tie Fighter. The Mouse Droid was also a “meh” build considering you can make it using extra pieces you may have.

Overall, I’d say buy this set even though Christmas is over. You might find it on sale in the upcoming weeks as stores try to get rid of their inventory. Whether you’re a collector or someone who likes LEGO in general, this set is a must buy. The value on this set will no doubt go up as time goes by and the Santa Yoda minifig will certainly hold it’s value on it’s own. As for next years advent calendar, there are pictures circulating around the web with Darth Maul as the main focus of the set. We’ll see if that stays true or not the coming months.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 24 – Santa Yoda

The final day of the LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar is here!! It’s no surprise what the final build is considering he’s on the box. Of course, it’s Santa Yoda. The head on this minifig is freaking awesome. He comes with his sack and presents as well as his walking stick. What’s not to love about this minifig? It’s Yoda in a Santa suit!

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 23 – Christmas Tree

Two days left in the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar!! On the second to last day, we get the Christmas Tree. It uses 18 pieces to create and looks okay. The tree includes different colored studs as ornaments and a star wand as the tree topper. Just one more day for the main attraction of the set.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 22 – A-wing

For Day 22 of the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar, we get the A-wing. This mini-build consists only 9 pieces and it’s a cool looking replica. The only flaw I see in the A-wing is that the two back wings fall off easily. Other than that, I like it very much.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 21 – Millennium Falcon

Three more days left in the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar and on Day 21, we get the very recognizable Millennium Falcon. The build consists of 13 pieces and looks awesome. LEGO did a great job on this mini-build. Hopefully, the final couple of builds are as good as this one.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 20 – Tie Fighter

If there is major disappointment in the LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar, this is it. Any other disappointments before today, forget I said it. The Tie Fighter looks like two black plates stuck on the side of a gray brick. Sure it looks like it, but looks like a very lazy build. It contains 7 pieces and you don’t need the diagram to make it.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 19 – Tie Pilot

Today we get another minifig, the Tie Pilot. It is the exact same minifig as in the LEGO Star Wars Tie Defender (8087) set. The Tie Pilot is in all black including the head. I like this figure a lot and makes a good addition to your collection.

On Day 18 of the Star Wars Advent Calendar, we get this white and yellow ship, the Y-wing. It takes a whopping 20 pieces to build. Our Rebel Pilot from Day 8 finally gets his ship 10 days later. The Y-wing looks pretty good overall.

It is no doubt a fantastic deal especially for the amount of pieces you get for the set. It contains 2503 pieces which comes out to $0.07/piece. Amazing!! LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 16 – Clone Pilot

For today, we get another minifig and not just any minifig. The Clone Pilot makes an appearance in the LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar. It has 6 pieces and the head is all black. Nothing to complain about here. Just another minifig to add to your army of troopers.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 15 – Republic Attack Gunship

For Day 15, we have another micro scale ship to build. It is the Republic Attack Gunship. Featured in Episode 2: The Clone Wars, it is a pretty accurate ship like many of the other ships in the Advent Calendar. The red and green pieces make the ship pop out more than if it contained only white pieces. The build contains 14 pieces with 3 extras.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 14 – Mouse Droid

This is one of those days where LEGO didn’t know what else to put in the Star Wars Advent Calendar. As with the R2-Q5 from Day 13, the Mouse Droid was included with the Death Star (10188) and the Imperial Star Destroyer (6211). It is made of 9 pieces and you really don’t need instructions to build it. A filler build that should’ve been left out I think.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 13 – R2-Q5

Originally included with the more expensive LEGO Star Wars sets such as the Death Star (10188) and the Imperial Star Destroyer (6211), the R2-Q5 droid minifig is now included in the 2011 Star Wars Advent Calendar. The coloring on this bad boy is awesome with the gold markings contrasting the black. I would definitely pick up another one of these droids separately to add to my collection.

LEGO Harry Potter The Knight Bus (4866) Review

One of the most well recognized vehicles in the Harry Potter universe comes from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It is the purple triple-decker bus known as the Knight Bus. It comes with 281 pieces and is recommended for ages 7-12. Retail price on this is set is $34.99 at the LEGO Store. Nothing too spectacular with the box, the front showing off an action scene and the back showing all the things included in this set. There is also an shot of how the the levels of the bus can be taken off. More on that a little later.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Advent Calendar Day 8 – Rebel Pilot

For Day 8 of the advent calendar, we get a nice looking Rebel Pilot minifig. After a little inspection, it appears the minifig is of Zev Senesca. It’s the same as the one in the Hoth Wampa Cave (8089)
set as well as the Rebel Trooper Battle Pack (8083). The only difference is the helmet in this set is all white compared to the other sets where it has gray markings. A very nice figure to add to your collection after a disappointing Day 7.

I must say that out of all the things in the Star Wars universe, a tools rack is just disappointing. Oh well, let’s hope Day 8 isn’t as disappointing…

LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon (7965) Review

My first impressions on just holding the box was “Wow!” The box art is pretty amazing and I especially like the blue tones LEGO used. The retail price for this set is $139.99. This set contains 1254 pieces and is recommended for ages 9-14. The box contains two instruction booklets and 15 bags that are numbered 1-6 and one unnumbered bag.

LEGO Harry Potter The Lab (30111) Review

The Lab (30111) is a LEGO Harry Potter set released as a part of The Sun newspaper promotion. I bought this set at Target for $3.99 as I was looking at the Christmas stocking stuffers. It consists of 34 pieces that also includes a spider and some other accessories. There is the usual Harry Potter minifig with his wand and in his school uniform. The main attraction is the potions cabinet. It has five different colored potion bottles that use the translucent pieces. There is also a hidden compartment that is accessed by lifting the shelves and inside there contains a letter and a horn. In conclusion, this is a pretty cool looking set that is a must-have for LEGO Harry Potter collectors.
